Hey everyone !!

I'm a newbie here . Im from manhattan .I already attended the seminar. my first appt is feb 12 @ Harlem hospital. I choose this hospital cause I have a relative that had worked with the bariatric surgeon DR. Ahmed . Anyone here has or will be having surgery with doc Ahmed or another doctor at Harlem hospital ??

Hello Odette

I went to Harlem hospital last year and honestly their appointments are very quick...my friend went there and had her surgery that's why I had decided to go there..I had done the majority of my appointments and all but backed out because of how the hospital looked so dingy and dark looking...Dr. Ahmed is very good from what I hear I just get very scared and worried when it comes to the looks of the hospital but if you can erase all of that from your mind you will be fine because that Dr is good

Hi patience

Thanks so much for your reply . The bariatric clinic has moved to the new building its actually very nice . I guess the rooms for recovery will not be the same . Should you decide to go back you will see its not in that old Ronald brown building (yuck) . My sister in law works in the OR so that's one of real reasons I'm going to do surgery there. I know the care I'm going to get . I'm afraid of not coming out alone else where . Lol .. How did your friend turn out btw? Is she happy 100%?

My friend came out fine and yea I know they moved to the new building that's the one I was going to I'm just speaking of the hospital because that's where u will get your surgery at when I went for the pulmonary, abdominal scan in the hospital it just spooks the hell out of me. But overall my friend came out good and she is fine till this day..I'm just a worrisome person when it comes to certain things

Oh I haven't been in that part of the building . Yikes .. I totally get you ... When I was pregnant with my daughter I refused to have my daughter in Mount Sinai cause i didn't like their maternity ward . I ended up at NYU . Lol . I might do the same.

I'm sure you will be fine though its just the looks of the place the bariatric building is beautiful its just the hospital that spooks me lol...but hopefully your sister will be there the day of your surgery to assist you and make you comfortable. I'm having mine done at montefiore hospital in the bronx hopefully soon..

Hey bronxites! I work for Monte but decided to pursue Dr. Garber. I'm currently in the evaluation stage. Any advice or suggestions? Slightly nervous about the life change and the mental willpower needed.

I'm going to have it done Hudson Valley hospital in Westchester. Nothing against Monte, they have fantastic doctors. I just prefer to see docs in a private setting. What stage are you in currently?

Hey Tina

Well I'm kind of in the beginning stages right now but should be getting the surgery done sometime in may because I just have to see the pulmonary and cardiologist plus blood work so hopefully soon..what about you?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
