Should I get another fill

Recommended Posts

I got my first fill 5 days ago and I can't tell any difference what so ever. Dr. Curry gave me 1.5 instead of 2.0 (that's what i wanted the 2.0) because I live so far away and might need a slight unfill. I don't want to be miserable. But I haven't lost an ounce since this fill and haven't lost a pound in over a week and was loosing very well immediately after surgery. He said in 2 weeks I could get more. Do you guys think I need more, I know your not here with me but I can gulp my drinks I can eat bread, hotdogs anything and if you were me and in another week make that long drive 10 hours round trip how much would you ask for?

Please help, I don't want to get miserable, I even wonder should I give this more time but I can't tell any difference at all.

I rely on you guys for info, please someone answer for me.

Sherri

hey sweetie, how strange.. i am in exactly the same situation as you! Got my fill on thursday and i havent really felt any restriction and things go down just as before.. I SO Need another fill. I say go for it. you need the band to work in order for you to work with it! Good luck!

Sherri: This may sound weird, but sometimes your fill needs more time to "take"...like, it doesn't kick in for a few days. This happened to me with my second fill. I was at 2 ccs...7 days out, nothing was happening weight wise or restriction wise. Then, all of a sudden...Day 8 came, and I was tighter! 3 weeks at this fill helped me lose about 8lbs.

I would suggest waiting until you've sat with this fill for a week or so...then make a decision.

The band is a fickle, fickle bitch sometimes.

I agree - wait two weeks and then decide - and remember, just because you can eat everything doesn't mean you should - you still need to stick to bandster portions, etc. I can eat most of those foods you mentioned but I eat them in extreme moderation and sometimes they work, sometimes they dont. Also I'd rather get more fill then have to get an unfill - went through that and that was misery and am getting refilled in a week or so. Good Luck, hang in there.

I still eat bandster portions are less but I mean I don't have to chew it, I can gulp, I still am eating less than 1000 calories aday but it's been a week tomorrow and no difference whatsoever and I know what it feels like because I had great restriction after surgery. I lost 21 pounds in less than 3 weeks.

I'm going to go on and schedule me another one for one more week out and if things change I can always cancel.

Thanks everyone for your help. I have read I got less on my first fill than most. Even my surgeon requested me to get 2.0 cc's at first but I just got the 1.5 so that may have something to do with it.

Another fill? Maybe. I would wait a few days. I have heard that ofter it takes a couple of weeks to kick in. Who knows why? Mine haven't, but I've seen plenty of posts about that. Being overfilled sounds miserable.

As Stina said, the band is a fickle bitch. Take care.

The first fill I had went away fairly quickly. Its because of the fat around the stomach. I would get another fill as soon as you can. I've had 2 fills and I'm ready for another. Don't be shy.

I know how frustrating it is to not have enough restriction. :)

So I agree, make the appointment now. Unless hormonal changes during your cycle affect your restriction, then you're probably right that this is where you are going to be.:phanvan

Take it from a long term Bandster, this tool does not work as effectively without whatever your personal level of restriction is in place. What ever that needs to be for you, that's where you have to get.

Now here is my crazy sounding idea (and you can shoot this down if it's not feasible.)

I hate to hear that it's a 5-hour drive each way, so I think I would try getting there early - maybe taking some time in the city- shopping, running errands and then trying to have a snack before leaving town (nothing heavy after a fill, of course.) That way you'd have a better idea of exactly where your restriction level is ... and then you'll know BEFORE you take the long drive.

I wish you tons of luck.

I have a similar story to yours. I am at 1.5 (wanted more, but didn't get it) on first fill. I quit losing for about a week and then my loss has been a little over a pound a week since then.

Please check June Bandsters (4 star) thread from around mid - end of July. So many of my fellow bandsters got more than 1.5 or went quickly to get another fill when first wasn't enough. Many had some painful and difficult days. Several had to have some fill removed for a time.

I really wanted to lose 8# a month after first fill--especially this early in the game, but I'm content with my loss. (lost 15# of my weight first wk pre and post op). I'm exercizing and feeling great. I'm ready for my second fill this Tuesday.

Better to remain healthy and lose slow for a few weeks. Too much fill rarely brings success.

Good luck and God bless your decision.

I agree with stinaNYC, I got a fill on a Thursday, and woke up 3 days later with awesome restriction! I thought I had wasted my time, but was really surprised!

It might take you several fills to reach a good restriction level. It can be a slow and frustrating process but I've found it possible to lose weight in the process, although I've lost slowly. But I do what I know I should and get my fills and doing what I know I should gets a tad easier with each fill.

I think for me, I'm happy to stay a little underfilled for the freedom and lifestyle it affords me, I want to be able to eat out and do all that stuff and it has been possible to do so and lose weight.

So hang in there, and realise it may take a few months to reach optimum restriction but that doesnt mean you wont lose anything in the meantime.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
