Bariatric Advantage

Recommended Posts

After my doctor appointment the other day where I chose my date, I met with a rep from Bariatric Advantage. It was good because I got to try everything. However, I almost feel like I might be being taken by a salesman. Of course, his products were the best and no others compared nutritional wise. However, I detested his Meal Replacement Protein Powder for the preop diet. When I tried to talk about other options like powders? utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury and the likes, he just wasn't having it because they aren't Meal Replacements with all the Vitamins and minerals. After surgery, I could use those but prior to surgery he was insistent I needed meal replacement shakes. Also, his vitamins were specifically made for pre and post Bariatric surgery and, in his opinion, there just wasn't anything else out there comparable. I understands he is a salesman, but geeze, his stuff wasn't cheap. The preop shakes, bars and "chips" is $180.00. The one month postop is $129.00 and the vitamins (multi, Calcium, b-12 , and d) will run me a little over $100.00 every 3 months.

I don't have a problem spending money for my health. I do have issues with spending more than necessary just to have Bariatric specific stuff and for their Protein meal replacements I detest just because the salesman's opinion is that his stuff is the best and because he feels I need meal replacements (instead of just protein shakes) during my preop.

I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for here. Maybe, to know what y'all are using and your thoughts of using bariatric specific products.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and opinions.

Check with the nutritionist... My drs. office suggested some of their stuff, but also told me where I could buy cheaper, but just as effective substitutes.

I plan on using opurity bariatric vitamins. It's once per day, chewable, and for 100 days it's 39.95. Good luck and don't let that salesman bully you!

My Doctors office recommended them to me but let me tell you I had nothing but problems with Bariatric Advantage as a company. Their website says they get the product to you in 4 or 5 days. I ordered mine 2 weeks before surgery thinking I would have it by the time I was home from the hospital. With being busy and working and getting my house and family ready before I had surgery I didn't notice that It never came and when I called 2 days after coming home from the hospital the guy on the phone said "oh it just hasn't shipped yet" he wasn't sure of the problem but assured me he would make sure it was shipped out overnight so I could get it the next day.. The next day it doesn't show up so I call again and the same guy says "oh it shows it hasn't shipped yet" then tells me the same thing it will be shipped overnight.

In the mean time I go to Walmart and buy some body fortress shakes that taste great and start with those.. I also had ordered a Multivitamin and Calcium supplement from them so since I didn't have those I had to spend more money and go buy some from the Vitamin shoppe. My order with Bariatric Advantage was a total of 179$ which had already been taken out of my account. Plus another $45 for the Walmart shakes plus another $60 for the supplements from Vitamin Shoppe.. at this point I was furious.. The next day of course my order isn't there so I call again. The girl I talk to has no idea what is going on my shipment is still sitting in the warehouse. I ask to speak with a supervisor or someone who is in charge. He finally gets on the line and assures me he is shipping my package out and I will have it the next day. I ask him to give me the tracking number and he does. So as I am tracking the package the next day to see where it is I realize it IS STILL AT THE WAREHOUSE!!!!! It was never picked up.

I call back and cancel my order. 2 days later my shipment arrives! After I had cancelled it. So I had to ship it back in order to get my refund. Which took 3 weeks!

I called my Doctors office to let them know the issues I was having since they recommended it. The nurse who I spoke with said she had talked to another patient who was having the same problem a few days ago with the same company.

Needless to say I will NEVER use their products and they will not get any of my money.

I guess I should add everyone has had their own experiences and I'm sure some people have been very pleased with their products and services from this company. I just wanted to share my own.

Look at reviews in more than one place and do your own research about their products I found some great things at different stores and online. That are not so expensive but of the same quality.

I even found these awesome dark chocolate medallions like a little piece of chocolate but with calcium citrate 500 mg!! they are awesome I take them 3 times a day and it is like a little treat they are low in carbs and sugar and taste fantastic!

Amy, who is your surgeon? I am south of Fort Worth and debating on changing surgeons based on my past experience with certain Protein Shakes. My current surgeon insists you use either Optifast or Bariessentials ($200 for 2 weeks!!!!). I have heard good things about another surgeon who lets you eat real food rather then shakes pre-op. I have a few more months to pray about it.. I hope you get a better option for your shakes!

I too ordered the Bariatric Advantage from a rep at MD appt. I only tolerated it a couple of days and ended up bringing it to the rep on my postop follow up visit. Asked him to credit me on future Vitamins but now those are making me nauseated post-op. I really like the Unjury powder and would read reviews/ research before signing up for all of it. I used Atkins bars preop and Evolv Protein Shakes with Unjury added preop after I couldn't stomach the BA.< /p>

Thanks for sharing your experience. More and more, I think I'm leaning away from them except for maybe their peanut high Protein bar which I loved.

I'm using Dr. Nicholson in Plano. The preop diet includes a shake for Breakfast and lunch. For dinner, I get 5 ounces lean Protein and two cups of non- starch veggies. I also get 1 fat serving a day as well as 3 high Protein Bars as Snacks.

I sent you a PM about this fattymcfatterson.

I've tried the Unjury and it is what I find tolerable and what I planned on using until the BA salesman told me I needed meal replacement preop. I'm still not sure why meal replacement is necessary preop but not postop. I got kinda a runaround answer when I questioned that.

I ordered a bunch of BA Vitamins. I had to give away the chewable Multivitamins. To this day, if I even IMAGINE taking them, I feel like I'm going to throw up. They are wretched, horrible vitamins. The Calcium wasn't much better. Gave it away too. I still want to find a bariatric specific Vitamin I can stomach, now that I can swallow pills.< /p>

I haven't had surgery and already am looking forward to getting to where I can take pills instead of chewable or liquid stuff.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
