Does anyone know how long after surgery we need to continue to sleep on our backs? I am a lifetime side sleeper and will rejoice when I am able to sleep on my side again! Not yet two weeks out...

I never slept on my back after surgery. As soon as I got out of recovery I curled up on my side and I one said a thing. It was never an issue.

I am 4 days out and am sleeping on my side. I wedge myself with pillows on either side of me so I don't roll on my belly. I was told I could sleep on my side if I was comfortable. Done it the past two nights and everything is ok. Good Luck!

I slept on my side last night for the first time. I woke up around 2am and had reflux. I have never had reflux before. I slept in the recliner the rest of the night and was fine by morning. I had my surgery on 4/10.

I'm 10 days out and still trying to sleep on my back (with a wall of pillows surrounding me). My doc did not require back-sleeping, but rolling over was awful at first so I avoided twisting as much as possible. Recently, I tried my side for a couple of hours and awoke a little sore, but not unbearable. Maybe try a nap on your side. Then you'll know if you're good for an all-nighter. Sweet Dreams!

i always sleep on my right side. I can no way, no how sleep on my back .

When i got home from the hospital i positioned myself on right side. i was in pain, grinned and beared it. I hurt alot. But i had no choice. i fell asleep pretty quickly i guess, don't really remember though.

After three days i improved slightly every day. By the fourth day i was sleeping on my right side in happiness and peace. Ahhhhhhhh i guess i was lucky

I was sleeved on 4/11...since surgery I've been sleeping on my recliner sofa...can't sleep on my back or my side :0(...I used to love sleeping on my stomach

I was sleeved on 4/10 and im able to sleep on my side but I've woken up during the night on my stomach oops. But now it's not as sore to sleep on my right side or my stomach. But I'm trying to stay on my side for now. I'm surprised I'm able to sleep in the bed thought I'd be on my recliner.

I sure wish I had a more encouraging response for you. I was sleeved on the 4th and am still struggling with being able to sleep on my side for any length of time. I have always had a hard time sleeping on my back but that seems to be the best position until I am fully healed. I can lay on my side for short periods but I always start hurting and then when I do shift onto my back---Ouch! It feels as if all of my insides are shifting and pulling each other and I get sharp pains right in the upper middle of my stomach that can last a couple hours and is bad enough to make me cry. (I am not a cryer.) Even when I stay on my back for the whole night, I have these pains for at least the first hour. Then when I get up in the morning, there's pain again as if gravity is forcing all of my organs downwards, no matter how slowly I sit/stand up. Does anyone else have an issue like this? I was imagining all kinds of inner complications as I was crying at 3am. I can't wait to have a pain-free night!

Your insides are shift a little I know the feeling as I have it to and it is the same feeling I had after child birth and things were going back to their place after my son kicked them out of his way. I can't sleep on my back and quite tired but can't sleep.

I slept on my side after day 2. I was sleeved on 4/10. I have been sleeping on my tummy and side since I got home. No problems : )

I usually sleep on my stomach but since I was sleeved on 4/23 I sleep on my side with a pillow on my stomach for support..I hope I can get back to my stomach

Me too!! I will be soooo glad when I can sleep on my stomach again!!

When I first came home I bawled like a baby because I couldn't sleep comfortably in ANY position. If I layed on my back I felt like my stomach was flopping around inside. On my side felt like my stomach was dangling freely inside my abdomen and sleeping on my stomach was out of the question. I was so desperate my 3rd night home that I slept in the front passenger seat of my car with the seat reclined just right!!! LMBO. Now I'm 2 weeks post op and I can sleep on my right side very comfortably with a pillow in between my knees and another in between my arms and slightly under my side for support. When you do sleep on your side try to sleep on your right side because that is the natural position that your stomach drains in into the duodenum and this will preven acid from flowing upward into the esophogus. I hope this helps.

Sleeved on 4/23 and was way too painful to sleep on side until last night, so 4th night I got on my side. The pain was excruciating getting onto my side, but once there and with heating pad on stomach, it felt sooo good. When I woke, I was on my back so I have no idea how long I stayed on my side. I do know I never slept on my back before though, and I usually sleep on my left side. Had to give up stomach sleeping years ago because of lower back pain.
