Anyone Not Have A Pre-Op Diet?

Recommended Posts

Am I the oddball sleever with no pre-op diet? My surgery date is May 7 and doc says he wants me healthy and strong for surgery. I'm all for it, but it feels like I'm missing something.

My surgery is next Monday (04/23) and I have yet to be prescribed any kind of liquid diet. I think it just depends on your surgeon.

I only had to do liquids the day before surgery which was not that hard.

Thanks for the input. I'm trying to be good without being "ordered" to. What I really need to do is give up the caffeine. I've slowed down on the soda but I don't feel human until after my morning coffee.< /p>

I had no pre-op diet. I was just told to have a light dinner the night before and stop eating at 22:00.

No pre-op diet here either. Just no food after midnight before the surgery. I would recommend trying to not eat a half hour before and after meals. That's the hardest part.

I'm so jealous of all of you!! My surgeon actually is doing the 2 week liquid diet to show it can be done and to get a better understanding of what he's asking his patients to do. Kind of cool :)

Good luck to you all with your surgeries! I hope to get my date next month :P

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
