I keep reading posts of people eating salads and I wonder - When did you have your first salad? I am craving fresh food!! I am a month out and have been tolerating everything else really well.

Thanks

I just had my one month last week and like you have been tolerating everything wonderfully. My NUT said to go ahead and eat what I want now, salads and fresh fruit/vegetables included....raw or cooked. Just make sure to chew really well. I am having my first salad tonight....so we'll see how it goes.

I can try salads/fresh fruit/vegetables in about 5 more weeks. My plan quickly brings you to soft foods, and then has you stay there for a long time. I heart salads *sigh*. Really, I miss bleu cheese dressing. :)

I tried salad pretty early on, shortly after I was allowed solid foods, and had no problem. I eat salads all the time now.

Like Wheetsin, My plan has me on mushy foods for a long time. (Clear liquids for 2 week, then mushy foods for 6 additional weeks). Mid May will be my first attempt at fresh foods (unless I blend them).

As soon as they gave the go ahead for solid food at 7 weeks I started eating small salads. I had two weeks of clear, two weeks full and 2 weeks mushy.

I had my 3 week post op visit yesterday and was told to go ahead and try eating lettuce.

I started eating salads at about 6 weeks but I had a really sensitive stomach so I waited longer than I had to....my nut gave the go ahead @ 4 weeks. I haven't had any issues, and eat a spinach, arugala, chard, radiccio mix at least once a day. Obviously eat the Protein on it first, but as long as its a Vitamin rich type of green it is good for you so eat it!! Def skip useless veggies like iceberg lettuce, cucumbers, etc. No nutritional value so pointless letting it take up space in your tiny tummy! Good luck :)

I havent had salad yet but I was eating solid foods at 5 weeks. I just started the veggie kick since I am craving them. Salads dont taste as good with the weather being cold still...guess I am weird, I only like them when it is warmer. I say take a bite and see, you will know pretty quickly and one bite cant hurt too bad if it doesnt agree with you, just make sure to chew well.

I so agree on eating a really Vitamin rich salad like you describe. They sell it boxed in my market under the title: Spring Mix.

Most lettuce like iceberg is like eating fibrous Water. There's nothing in it and not worth the room it takes up. Broccoli, swiss chard, cauliflower, beets, sugar snap peas, and other vegetables do well in salads as well as meats, Beans and cheeses. Nuts too! Sometimes I serve my meats on a bed of greens when I don't make quinoa.

I had my 1st salad about 2 1/2 weeks post-op. I used to be happy with an iceberg salad, but since we're after good nutrients I've chosen spinach or romaine. I love to add just about anything I can find to my salad. Tomato, carrot, green onions, radish, snap peas, sprouts or celery really make the salad for me. I add diced up chicken breast for Protein and a low carb dressing.

Thanks! Now I have to go make myself a salad for diner.

Pre sleeve I loved salad! I tried a few bites of a salad when I was out to dinner last weekend (got the Soup and salad combo:) and it just didn't taste good. Maybe because I chewed the heck out of it. I think I will wait a few weeks and try again.

I just started eating salad at 2 months. I could have had earlier but I was scared to try. My sleeve loves the spring mix but iceberg made me gassy and uncomfortable.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
