Confusion On Calorie Nets

Recommended Posts

I'm kinda stuck around this 206 mark and am guessing it will move at some point. Hoping anyway. I have been floating back and forth here for over a week.

I am getting anywhere from 700-1000 calories a day as intake but then my exercise drops it by about 300, sometimes a little more. I am confused if I am suppose to eat more to have a net of 1000 or what?

My NUT's instructions are only to be low carb - keep them under 30. Well I am doing that.

I know I could do only liquids and start the loss again but I don't want to live on liquids forever and shouldn't I be consuming foods for my other organs?

Any comments?

Concentrate on getting in your 70g of Protein a day, plus 64 oz of Water. Other than that, don't worry about it. If you're going to eat carbs, though, be sure that they are high quality carbs, not slider crap (like cheetos)! ;)

From what I see and experience, I lose better when I get in my 64 oz of Water. I don't worry about whether I'm under 1000 calories a day, although I don't usually even get that high. I eat to fuel my body so that I can live and keep up with my exercise. The question has been asked before about whether we should "eat our exercise calories"... and I don't usually. But, I worry more about meeting my Protein goal for the day than whether I've stayed under some arbitrary number of calories.

As a matter of fact, I find that I lose better when I've had several days where my calorie intake is higher than normal. You may have a different experience, but the extra calories seem to translate into more energy for me when I exercise.

Thanks Lissa - yeah I am always getting at least 70 grams of Protein, sometimes over 100. Always over 70 of Fluid. The last two days I have been able to transition to plain Water (couldn't stand it right after surgery) but have been making sure that 64 oz of my intake is water only and then after that I am allowing other fluids.

I am so lost at how people are getting in so much protein! I'm struggling to get mine in and average 40-60 a day! I'm 6 weeks out and just reached the point where I can get in 60 oz of Water. I applaud you ladies! Please share your secrets.

I could eat Protein all day with no problem. But I am a little over 4 months out and can't get much over 800 calories in. I was told to stay between 800-900 until I get to my goal.

Have you tried the premier Protein shakes they come in vanilla and chocolate and they are the bomb you can get them at costco or Sams I like them cause they are thin and go down like regular liquids I also use the powder that you add to Water but they are thicker and it takes me forever to finish one . Each of those premier shakes has 30g Protein 1g sugar oh and they are inexpensive you should try them ;-)

I still have a Protein bar or shake most days. That 30 gram boost to the Protein intake is very helpful. I also try to choose high protein Snacks like cheese, lunch meat, etc.

You'll find your own way to get the protein into your sleeve. I have regressed to the protein bars/shakes because I'm trying to add more veggies and carbs to my diet. I'm adding them because they seem to fuel my workouts better than pure protein does. :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
