I have 1 more appointment for my 6 month supervision. The medical assistant said after my last appointment they will submit to insurance. How long does/did it take to hear back from BCBSIL? Is the approval easy? Any advice?

BCBS IL no longer has the 6 month diet supervision required! As of 2/28, they amended their policy. I submitted on a Tues and got approval on a Friday.

Mine still does. I called when I first heard about it, but my employer still requires it I guess. So it only took u a few days to get approval? Did u hear from surgeons office or did I call insurance to find out? Thx

That is so weird. Not sure why an employer would set medical policy...but who knows. It was really quick and my stats are EXACTLY the same as yours. I am 5 foot 2 and started at 226. I am at 204 now and surgery is Wednesday. BCBS was great, I got a letter from them...but the surgeon's office knew before the letter. It was really quick and no quibbling. I was also assigned a nurse case manager...haven't seen the value of that yet, but we will see. GOOD LUCK!

It seems to vary. I have bcbsil and am trying for revision. It has been going back and forth between insurance and my doctor for about a week, but I have read about people being approved through them in a matter of days. I have also read of some people not having to do the 6 month diet plan through some plans with bcbsil.

I currently have the lapband. I am trying to get it removed and have the sleeve put in its place.

My insurance submitted on a tuesday or wednesday... I had approval by Friday.. I would call and inquire after your paperwork is submitted.. Just say that you are verifying that they received your forms and want to know if there is anything else they need...

I called back the next day, found out I was approved, called my surgeon and scheduled pre-op testing... Best wishes for a quick and positive response...

I am freaked out beyond belief. I am pretty tired from the pre-OP diet and TOM this week, but I cannot sleep. I have crazy dreams and just weird panic-like moments. I have thought about canceling about 10 times...but am still pushing forward. It is an emotional roller coaster. I do know that I have been unsuccessful losing weight on my own and have just about had it being over 200lbs...so that is my drive.

I'm freaking out too and I'm two months away. Don't give up. Keep going forward. I have thought to myself that I can just continue to eat right and exercise to not get the surgery but the reality of it is that I know myself and I know I will only stay with it for so long. Surgery is what I need. I was also told I am pre diabetic. I don't want to end up likes mom who is diabetic n had to do shots twice a day. If u want we can talk n go through this journey together. Sleeve buddies are important. No one really understands what ur going through in life but ur sleeve buddy does. I can private message u n give u my cell # we can text or call each other. :)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
