Can You Keep Losing Weight After A Year

Recommended Posts

I have heard that your weight loss will slow after a year for the sleeve. I am hoping to reach goal but at the rate I am going I don't think I will lose all 150 pounds by a year. I have lost 54 pounds but am worried I won't lose all the weight. Give me good news.

I think for most people weightloss slows down after 6 months. It may very well take you longer than a year to lose all your weight, but that's ok, right? I've seen several people with under 100 lbs to lose taking 2+ years to reach goal, but they're committed and they get there.

To answer your core question, there is no expiration date with the sleeve. You will lose as long as you continue putting in the work. You will probably have stalls, but keep at it.

I believe we will loose weight for as long as we need too. After all they have done the gastric bypass in two stages and discovered that the second step wasn't necessary most of the time, leaving the person with just a sleeve. Yep it's possible..... ;)

If you keep to you plan you can lose weight as long as you need to. There's no time limit. Some people get tired of eating Protein first and denying themselves whatever others around them are eating and so never reach their goal but I believe that if you want to lose 150 lbs you can do it, no matter how long it takes. Have you read any of Coop's posts? She is an inspiration for many as she has never given up her determination to reach goal.

I wanted to loose about the same as you. I am not 6 and a bit months in and have lost 112 pounds to date. I think it is possible to keep loosing. I am hopeful that I will make it before the year is up. I have had to work hard, lots of exercise and still watching what I eat. I think you have to work it especially in the early stages. It has got a bit harder to loose nowadays but I feel like I have already won as I am fitter and healthier than I have been in decades.

Foxbins you're way too kind... you call me an inspiration, my hubby says it is bloodymindedness..lol... but yea, I refuse to give up!

As far as I am concerned there is absolutely no time limit to losing weight with or without the sleeve. But yes, after 6mths or so it is a lot harder. But that is o, you gott keep your eye on the prize right?

And this is the bit that I find amusing(?) I haven't lost a pound since Oct... but I have gone from a tight UK16 to a loose UK14... so work that out. It has recently dawwned on me that it isn't just the numbers on the scale that determines success...I haven't been a size 14 for over 20yrs, yet I weight heavier now than I did then... it is how we feel that also makes the difference. That doesn't mean I don't want to see the magice numbers of 15? but it does mean that I don't beat myself up and put myself down.

Just do what works for you and it will all make sense in the long run! =]

I agree with Coops and Foxbins. The sleeve is an amazing tool we have been provided. It will be there for you to "use to lose" at a year, 18 months or longer. As you get totally healed, your restriction may not be what it is in the first six months, but I still have good restriction at 15 months. To echo earlier posters, you have to be diligent in your food choices, pratice the good behaviors (Protein first, no drinking while or after eating) and regularly exercise. You should still be able to lose doing these things. People lose at different rates - but the higher you keep your personal metabolism, the faster you will lose. To keep your metabolism at its highest "setting", eat small portions throughout the day of quality Protein and exercise regularly.

Good Luck!

Sharon

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
