1 Week Post-Op And Scared!

Recommended Posts

So, I had my gastric sleeve a week ago today, and all the things that I thought would be, are not... The healing is going pretty roughly, food is no longer a priority, and honestly, eating is more a chore now.

I just wanted to get some thoughts or advice on how to transition into this new 'normal' more fluidly and less drastically. I feel like my life is at a standstill with how weak I am and how I'm still in a lot of pain. Once I get back to moving and shaking, does anyone know how to make food seem less like a burden, or does that come naturally?

I'm just scared with how everything is changing so much and I'm scared I won't be able to keep up... :-(

What is hurting?? I was having a lot of pain post op but once I started taking something for acid-the pain was very very minimal.. Are you taking anything? Make sure you are drinking and trying to get some Protein in--that is why you are weak. It is scary-I agree-but things will look better for you in another day.week.month.year. PM me if you want to chat... (I am 4 wks p.o.)

It does get better. As for as eating, you will transition and eating becomes habitual. I still remind myself that I don't need a lot of food. It's the head hunger that's the worst. Make sure you drink as much liquids as you can and then Protein. As a rule, protein first, veggies, little starch. Try and hit 54 ozs of Water if possible. Oh at this point Protein Shakes count as a liquid. So keep doing what your doing. Are you taking a PPI? IF not then ask your surgeon to prescribe you one. Now let's heal so you can continue to rock your sleeve! ;)

Well, the pain in moreso from the wounds and my 'tummy' still being swollen... Everything seems like its getting stuck, including liquids... I'm taking pain meds (not too often as I'm nervous about forming a habit) pepcid 2x daily, chewable vitamins, and anti nausea when needed....

The protien shakes were making me sick, so after a lengthy discussion with my dietician, she suggested I find my protien elsewhere. So I am drinking 2% milk (skim 4 weeks after surgery), yogurt, and Soups with no less than 13g of protien....

I'm trying to get all my protiens in, but the dietician wants me to focus on hydration right now and in a week or two, it'll be easier to get the correct amount of protiens in... But it feels like nothing will be normal again... :-(

Proton Pump Inhibitor, which is your prilosec or prevacid.

Keep hanging in there. It will get better. Take it one day at a time.

Thanks! I was starting to panic, thinking that I was not taking something I was suppose to...

Idk if you can tell, but I'm a bit of a worrier... ;-)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
