Flab On Front Of Arms

Recommended Posts

Sooo I used to have muscles in my biceps because I did push-ups almost daily due to my old job. But now the front of my arms are kind of flabby with stretch marks. The backs of my arms are fine. I'm don't want to get muscles again. Should I start working my arms now or wait until later. I've heard high reps low weight works. Is this true? Or any tips or suggestions on how to tone my upper front arms (biceps area)?

High reps, low weights does work. I've been diligently doing this since surgery and I'm seeing improvement in my arms. I don't have big muscles, but I do have definition and strength!

Yep, I agree with Lisa, the low weight high rep is a good way forward... I started with this in the very early stages! I don't do them so much now, but I do go to a boxing gym which has definately helped tone my arms and given me extra strength. I think push ups or half push ups are really good for upper arms too.

How low of weights are we talking? I think it is time I start to tone up a bit. I have never really worked with weights so I don't even know where to begin! Suggestions?

I use either 5 lb or 7.5 lb :)

I bought a set of weights ... 3, 5, and 8 pound weights. I use the 8 pounders a couple of times a week and the 5 pounds every other day. For me, it's almost an obsession. If I stop in front of the tv, I grab the weights and do 20-40 reps with whichever set I got. If it feels like it's too easy that day, I'll do another 20plus reps with the heavier weights. I also do some pulldowns at the gym with 30 pounds on the machine, but I'm doing those specifically to strengthen my back muscles. I have an old back injury caused by repetitive typing in the long muscle down the right side of my back, so I do the pull downs because it seems to help stretch that muscle out.

You don't need high weights, just do what is comfortable. I literally started with 2 pound weights and found 10 repetitions tough at first. It's working, too. Today I moved things around in my storage unit, then carried out and in boxes without feeling back or arm strain. Some of those boxes weigh 40 to 50 pounds.

My arms are out of proportion with the rest of my body (they started out 19 inches round) and they are looking horrible so I've decided I would rather them be overly muscley then flabby so I'm lifting heavier weights 25-30 pounds 3 reps of 12 on all the circuits at the gym.

I use 3 or 5 pound weights. I do a variety of exercises that target the different areas. I started seeing results pretty quickly even using the 3 pound weights. Low weight high rep works well for me, and I am starting to love how my arms look.

I have NEVER had muscle definition in my arms before, but I do now. I am so thrilled by that!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
