Supposed To Start Full Liqids Today

Recommended Posts

I was able to start full liquids on day 3 or 4. I've barely started them just because capacity wise, by the time I do meds, Protein and Vitamins I can't hold much else (throughout the day). I wasn't scared of full liquids, some Protein Drinks are thicker than full liquids, but I've been able to move into things like deli meats for several days now and haven't yet.

I was started on full liquids (protein drinks) immediately after surgery; within hours! HOWEVER, I was instructed to take very tiny sips! I had to drink one once in 8 to 10minutes, not faster! And my doctor gave instruction to the nurses that when they came to check on me I should have a Protein Drink or SF popsicle etc in my hands and working on it. Right from day one he wanted me to try to get at least 30 oz of fluids in! and 60 to 70 gms of protein! I don't think I made that but I had to work on it. For me what was really scary was moving to the mushies! LOL even though I was ready. That happend around week 5 or six, I believe.

I know it's really scary, but I did fine. Just take your time and go very slow. It's all a process but we all get through it. Best of luck and sending good thoughts for a super speedy recovery!!!!

Thanks :) ya I'm able to get more and more liquids down every day...it hurts really bad if I take to big of a sip on accident, kind of like massive cramps...and they kill...I'm scared cuz it hurts just like the day of surgery ...he also fixed a hernia when he was in there so that might be why I hurt ..thanks for listening to me :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
