Losing Too Quick! Am I Crazy For Complaining?

Recommended Posts

Was sleeved March 1 and as of today I am down 43 lbs. Lost 17 from preop liquid diet. I see a lot of people complaining about stalls and don't get me wrong I love that I'm losing weight I just don't want to lose too quickly. I am eating and drinking ok. I have already started eating a bit of solids so I am for sure getting in most of my Protein. My goal is 100lbs and I know I will get there but not in 3 months! Am I crazy for thinking like this? I haven't even started excercising.

Are you male or female? Males seem to loose faster. You're down 26lbs since surgery in the first month and that doesn't seem too crazy. I was the same but I didn't have a pre-op diet so I didn't loose a big chunk before surgery. You're doing great! My experience with starting solids is the weight loss slowed. My surgery was 1/9/12 and I'm down 50lbs. I'm thrilled with the pace so far.

I would not worry, if you are getting the Protein and Vitamin intake you need and liquid...you will be fine...If you are concerned though call or email your dr. He will set your mind at ease!

No, I think it is good to be aware of this. I think I lost too quickly as well. The consequence of it, for me, was a huge loss of muscle mass, lost 3/4 of my hair and have so much extra skin, it's ridiculous. But, as time has gone by, my extra skin has lessened, whether that is naturally being absorbed or elasticity, I don't know. I have been at the club working out lifting weights to try to regain my muscle, which has been coming back. My hair has just recently started coming back ... I think ... At least I don't have the handfuls of hair I used to have falling out.

Yes, it was fun to get to goal quickly, but now on this side, if given a choice, I would have rather lost the weight slower.

I was eating only 400-600 calories early on and running everyday. I should have focused on getting more calories in, I think.

Just male sure you are getting your Protein in (I was not very good at that) and your nutrients. Just do the best you can.

I am male. I do take Vitamins daily and I have definately lost muscle mass and plan on starting to work out again. Thanks for your comments. When did your hair start falling out?

Short answer: "Yes." Aha, just kidding. There are the issues of regain, excess skin, muscle and hair loss, but as everyone says: make sure you get the Protein and fluids in.

I've got bat wings or what do you call them? Ham flaps? on the insides of my thighs now, but I don't care! They were once filled with nasty fat!

I haven't had any Hair loss yet. I have a lot of hair, but it is the thin strand kind.

Hi. I was also sleeved on 03/01. I have lost 41 lbs but I am a chick not a dude. I lost 19 lbs pre-op and I lost the remaining 22 lbs post surgery. I don't think you are losing too fast. I have heard that it slows drastically after 3 months. Keep up the great work! My goal is 118 lbs from start weight so I have 77 lbs to go! Race you to the finish line!?!

Losing slowly is always best for muscle retention. Getting plenty of Protein in along with amino acids like glutamine helps retain muscle too. Can you tell that you've lost muscle/strength? I know I sure did the first month or so and it worried me because I worked really hard in the past for the muscle gains. But I've really started to gain a lot of that back the past couple of months and my weight loss has slowed, so I'm maintaining/gaining muscle. I think that a good chunk of that quick weight loss initially for me was fat. As for hair, I was fairly bald to begin with, so I haven't really noticed any Hair loss yet. : P

My hair started falling out at about 5 months. At that point, I was doing what had been recommended by my NUT and others here on the board. I was finally getting all the recommended Protein (and then some), taking my supplements including zinc, Iron and Biotin. There must be some other component to rapid weight loss that adds to the hair issue. The hair I do have is also not the healthiest ...

I know it is said tongue and cheek, but I would definately not recommend racing to goal with another member. The weight will come off. Doing it quickly is not healthy. You can Google all the issues surrounding rapid weight loss. Just because we were sleeved does not prevent the issues. Yes, you can take your supplements and Vitamins and get your nutrients, but you have to eat and I'm sure you would hate to find out the other person wasn't doing what they needed to do because they were in a race with you.

I was sleeved on Feb 23, 2012. To date I've lost 81 pounds. The first fifty pounds just melted off very quickly. Lately, I've been averaging about 2-3 pounds per week (a healthy rate). It will slow down. As for the Hair loss. I started losing my hair in high school and was bald at 22years old! I have not seen additional hair loss post op or in the last 20 years for that matter!

Apparently I need to clarify that the race you to the finish statement was a JOKE... I am not an idiot and wouldn't sacrifice my health to try to beat someone to my goal weight. If I was able to do that I wouldn't have needed this surgery to begin with. This topic is about losing weight too quickly therefore I thought it would be funny to say lets race since my weight loss is really close to his and we have the same surgery date...

I second that. It was obviously a joke and in no way we would act like children racing with our lives! Crystal I understood from the start what you meant.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
