Hey...wondering if I should even bother buying k-cups for after my surgery....regular or Decaf coffee? Is it even tolerable? Thanks =)

I was told no Caffiene at all and only 16oz of Decaf beverages per day

I was told Decaf, but no limit. My nutritionist said if you are very good about staying hydrated, then one cup of coffee with caffeine is no problem. I am only 10 days post op so I haven't tried yet. Maybe in a couple of months.

I believe the caffeine dehydration thing is a myth. Here is an article that backs that:

http://www.medicinen...rticlekey=50654

A quote from the article which was originally on WebMD.com:

Myth No. 2: Caffeinated beverages make you dehydrated

Not true.

"For years, newspaper and magazine articles have repeated the notion that caffeine is dehydrating as if it's absolute fact," says University of Nebraska researcher Ann Grandjean, EdD. But in a study published in the October 2000 Journal of the American College of

Nutrition, Grandjean and her colleagues at the Center for Human Nutrition showed that it's pure fantasy.

The researchers looked at how different combinations of Water, coffee, and caffeinated colas affected hydration levels in a group of 18 men between the ages of 24 and 39. During one phase of the experiment, the only Fluid the volunteers consumed was Water. During another, 75% of their intake was caffeinated.

"Using almost every test ever devised to measure dehydration, we found no difference at all," says Grandjean.

BUT, most coffee has a high acid content and can raise the dickens with heartburning. It also increases my appetite, I don't know about others.

My compromise is a small expresso. Low in volume but high in coffeeness. B)

I was a coffee addict before surgery but since I've had my sleeve I don't crave it anymore at all, I have trouble getting the Water I need in so I dont even have room for it.

This is one of my biggest questions sadly because I am so addicted to coffee. currently I have two cups of coffee in the morning before people can even talk to me. I am hoping that at some point I can fit in a little. I have surgery on 4/18.

I think I was told to wait for 8 or 9 days after surgery. I've been drinking coffee every morning since then and no problems. I had to give up diet coke, don't mess with my coffee. A girl can only give up so much.

I am now 5 days post-op and feeling great. I get my drain removed on Wednesday. While there, I am going to ask the NUT about when I can start drinking my coffee again. Thank you again for sharing your information with me =)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
