Great information and the answers let me know I'm right on track with similar symptoms and things happening to my body. At this point I'm ready for my incisions to heal.

I guess I don't understand the basics. When do you go back on a normal diet? Can you ever eat normally again? Does the stomach stretch out some? Or normalize? Will I still be eating rabbit pellet snacking of food in 6mo, 1 year, 5 years? I assume the new stomach stretches a bit? Please clarify this.

Did you have a sleeve? With the sleeve they take out the part of the stomach that stretches the mot and the part that triggers hunger. So, hopefully the sleeve does not stretch -- that is how it helps you keep off your weight. We all need to redefine "normal" diet. Our new "normal" is very different from what we ate prior to surgery both in quantity and quality. We eat way less and we don't eat carbs. If you go back to how you ate prior to surgery you will get sick and also gain back weight. THe new norm is way smaller portions -- for example in a restaurant you might get an appetizer portion and east part of it rather than an appetizer main course and dessert. Think of all the money we will save! And you wil probably want to eat more fish and chicken and just some red meat. And cut out Desserts, Pasta etc. Remind yourself that food is just to stay nourished -- it is no longer our entertainment. You can do this!

Judy I'm going to get the sleeve. I'm not concerned that I won't get to eat enough, mostly I didn't know how weird the rest of my life will be. Eventually I'll be eating somewhat normally just smaller portions right? I've never been a big bread, Pasta carb person so I'm not going to miss those things. Mostly I want to eventually be able to have some salad and veggies and not appear too strange when eating with friends. Cheers.

How do I fit in Protein during the clear liquid stage? Or do I start protein after the clear liquid stage?

It's been little over a year & I went from 246 to 138. I now eat whatever I want of corse smaller portions. I had a dr pepper the other day at lunch & I couldn't drink it all but I was able to have a few sips with my salad that I had. I'm really trying to maintain this weight & try not to lose anymore but it's kinda hard. Every week I lose 3-5 pounds a month. Not what I want at this point. I feel I'm skinny enough & happy at this size.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
