I Haven't List Since January!

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I was sleeved August 26, 2011. All was great until January. I haven't lost a pound since then! It all coincides with me having half of my thyroid removed due to a large nodule. It was causing me to be hyperthyroid which I'm sure enhanced the weight loss. I am only down 65lbs (10 prior to surgery). I have a good 70 lb to go. I'm sad, mad, discouraged, terrified I've reached my max. How can I get this thing moving again????

meggspeggs,

I wish I could help but I am in the same boat! I keep bouncing around the same 2-4lbs since the end of Oct and it is really frustrating. The difference is that I am 19+mths out.

When I was at your stage, I remember really slowing and stopping... but it DID start again. I suppose we just have to do what we know is right. Don't give up!

I think the hormone thing will have something to do with it, they really are beasts when it comes to our bodies and weight. Have you spoken to your doc/surgeon about the effects of the thyroid removal?

You've done an amazing job so far... keep on keeping on!

Meggs, I could have written your post, without the thyroid removal. I have found that my clothes are getting looser and that my body is reshaping itself, despite the scale sitting at this number. I've been changing up my exercise routine and actually added some foods to my diet for energy and endurance during exercise. This morning, I finally posted a 1.8 pound loss. I am so happy about that, but I've lost 3 pants sizes during the latest stall, which is usually how it happens for me. I'll lose pretty steadily for a bit, then stop while my body shrinks and readjusts...then I'll lose a little more. This time around, I'm seeing definite waist definition and a firmer tush, so I'll take this temporary stall while my body creates those lines! :)

I have also found that I lose, then stall, then lose, then stall. Make sure you're varying your food intake and exercise routine, and it WILL keep coming off. Slow is fine...you'll get there!

I can say that weight loss after thyroid removal is harder than regular weight loss alone- you have to try 2 x harder to get anything off- you never realize what function your thyroid has until after it's gone- I had mine removed in 2007 due to cancer and also had 5 parathyroid glands removed- It can be done it is just harder and slower. Also your dose of thyroid medication will flucuate- mine still is even 5 years later- i have my labs every 6 weeks - my dosage changes every 6 weeks... hang in there- it can be done!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
