Hi,

Since about a week after surgery until now (5 weeks out) I have a weird audio thing going on in my right ear. I can ear my voice VERY loudly and my breathing very loudly but can't ear what people across the table are saying. I self diagnosed myself via google like I always do and I have determined it to be Patulous Eustachian tube problems http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patulous_Eustachian_tube. Has this happened to any of you guys, does it go away?

I had that when I lost weight before and I am praying I don't have it this time. When you lose weight too quickly, some people lose the fat around the tube in the ear and it causes this. The only thing I have found that works is eating more. For immediate, temporary relief, lower your head below heart level and the tubes will close. Good luck!

Now that you mention it. YES! I've had some really weird issues with my ears. All of a sudden out of nowhere, all I will be able to hear is a loud high pitched sound and everyone else will sound like they are under Water. I can barely hear them. At the same time I have also felt a little faint. Hmmm, I wonder what rare and exotic disease I have.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. Good job on the research. Do you think an ENT could help?

Sure the right thing is to go to an ent so they can run a million tests and say yup.. that's fat loss or they won't even get it... but I'm not going to do this yet. I am just hoping it goes away once I stop with the dramatic weight loss

I went to several ENT's and they either know nothing about it or tell you to eat more and stop exercising for a while. There are some specialists who operate but they are rare and the success rate of the surgery is something like 20%.

I had a tube put in my ear drum and it clears this up for me as long as a tube stays in my drum. I have a "T" tube in and it's a big relief. As soon as the hole heals without a tube I get the echo back when talking etc. I suggest this an option. My latest "T" tube has been in for over 10 years now.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
