Recommended Posts

How many calories should i consume per day? I have read so many contradicting figures! I am onto solids now and i eat about 800 ish calories a day..

What do you all think? :)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Best wishes!

I wouldn't go below 1,000. Mostly because the body processes (brain function, etc) require a min. to work at a healthy rate. I understand some surgeons may ask you to go down to 800. You will definitely loose at 1,000-1,200 (barring any disease), plus you'll feel better and healthy. I've lost a good chunk and have slowed down a bit (closer to goal now). I've been mostly on 1,200 calories a day.

I'm also having some calorie intake problems. But I am only 5 days post op and am still on liquids. Today is the most calories I have been able to consume and it was only 230. Even with chick broth, Water, crystal light, etc, I feel pressure in my chest. I obviously have not had any fills and I have a 10cc band. And actually I'm not even sure about that. Right before I went into surgery my doctor told me I would be getting a 10, but I didn't know there was a 10cc and a 10cm till yesterday. I have no idea now which one of those he put in me. Im almost positive it was the 10cc. I know my restriction is just swelling. But I'm curious how long it takes for swelling to go down.

The number is different for everybody but the more you exercise then the more you can eat and still lose weight.

That doesn't change.

1000 min & 1200 max for me has worked very well to lose weight and feel good doing it.

I thnk most people eat a lot less than what they will average later on, immediately after surgery, so you're probably doing as well as your new band will allow for the moment.

Long term, I think going below 1000 to 1200 depending on your size and build is a bit risky - whether or not you believe in starvation mode, you wont be getting all your nutrients in if you eat that little long term. Most females need 1200 a day at the very minimum.

Unfortunately for some people that stops them losing weight satisfactorily, so I guess if you find you really need to eat that little, you have to eat extremely carefully.

I'd rather do more exercise and eat more. I have lost so far on about 1600 to 1800 calories a day but I really did reach a point where I wasnt losing anymore on that, despite running five times a week, a good distance too. So I've recently cut back to about 1400 a day and its literally falling off me again, yippee. I guess I'll have to think about 1200 in another couple of months to get to goal.

I'm tall and VERY active though, so I guess I can get away with a bit more.

To me, I guess I dont aim for fast weight loss, I aim to eat as much good healthy food as possible and still lose weight. So I have something up my sleeve for when the weight loss stops and so I get as much nutrition as possible.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
