My first day home after my surgery and it is a bit more challenging than I thought! I am not hungry at all but I have finally come to understand that I have an addiction to food. The minute my eye caught a piece of soda bread I instantly wanted to gab it. I have my eye on the prize but this is no quick fix, gonna take a lot f willpower and strength.

I agree with you, this surgery is not like we took a magic pill. Is not an easy journey but at least we are able to eat in small quantities now :) Congrats and a speedy recovery to you!

I think the first week, when you're trying to wrap your mind around having had surgery, is probably the toughest part.

Your tummy isn't happy at all; you're drinking liquids for two weeks; you're thinking when do I get to chew again?

The answer is -- soon. It's all going to be all right. You'll graduate to mushies (scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, etc.) and they're going to be pretty darn wonderful when you get there. I thought scrambled eggs tasted like heaven.

Hang in there. It'll get better. I promise and so do a whole lot of other folks on this site.

Best,

Carol

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
