7 Years Post Op Vsg

Recommended Posts

Never get on here but just checking in reading posts. Everyone has the same concerns, issues but eventually everything turns out fine. I have put on about 15 pounds that I am trying to take off from the 75 I originally lost but not too bad after 7 years. I have the tool to do it I just need to make my mind up! Unfortunately there is nothing that I cannot eat but I will get there. Have never exercised, I know, isn't that terrible! I swear I am going to start though! Just want everyone to know that seven years out it is still all good! No regrets!

Hey Luck...

7 years out and just 15lbs... that is brilliant!!

It is really good to hear from a sleever with this much experience! Thanks for popping on and letting us know.

I am sure that those 15lbs will soon go away... good luck and work that sleeve! =]

Hello everyone, thanks!!! To answer Joseph I can pretty much eat like a "normal" person. When I first had it I could not even eat half of a kids hamburger and now I can eat the hamburger, a few fries and a few sips of whatever. After years you figure out how to cheat or eat more (dry, crunch foods go down really easy) so you have to be mindful of what you put in your mouth. Eat your salad or veggies first for sure and I have not been obviously... I feel great though. I did have to start Rogaine for thinning hair but it's working and it hasn't been a big deal. Unfortunately I have been snacking ALL day. I have days like those but sometimes medications or moods can make you overeat. Zero regrets! My sister had it and three of my friends after seeing my success and no one has ever said they wish they hadn't done it!

Thank you for this and congratulations! I was wondering though, do you feel hungry?

Yes I do. I don't know of anyone who doesn't have hunger pains. They are a little different that the ones I had prior surgery but yep, they exist but get satisfied with a much smaller amount of food.< /p>

Where are you from? From all the research I've looked into I thought the sleeve was only being done in the past 3-4 years. I am thrilled to hear that after all these years you only gained 15 lbs. I have been nervous what will be years from now. I know lots of banded friends who gained almost all or all their weight back.

Louisiana, Andrew Hargroder did my surgery in May of 2005. It has become popular in recent years but I only knew of one other person in my area who had ever had it done. When I went for my pre-surgery appointments I was always the only one in the room getting the vsg but it's been around since then. I have heard of many cases and in fact got a phone call yesterday from an acquaintance who is considering band to sleeve surgery because she has gained all of her weight back and has always had problems. VSG is so easy, you have nothing foreign (other than titanium staples which have been uses for years) and it is permanent. I would have never considered any other type of procedure.

I AM SO SORRY!!!! APPARENTLY THE LACK OF food HAS MELTED MY BRAIN. IT WAS MAY OF 2007, ONLY 5 YEARS! WHEN I WAS QUESTIONED I WENT TO LOOK BACK AT MY POSTS! SORRY!!!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
