Incision Infected At Seven Weeks

Recommended Posts

I have one small incision that seems infected now. I'm wondering if I should just put Neosporin on it or if I need to contact the dr. It seems late to have this issue. It's one small hole that is the issue. Thoughts?

Can you describe what it looks like? Is it causing you pain?

You may have a subcutaneous skin suture that is trying to work it's way out. Probably want to see the dr, they may need to make a small incision and remove the offending suture. Not at all unusual, even at this time.

You know, my son had a surgery when he was a baby... and when he was about 7 weeks out, we brought him back with what we feared was an infection. Turns out, it was just hairs growing out of follicles that had been displaced at the incision site. Looked infection-like, but that's what it was...

It's dark purple and I just noticed today when it started leaking pus and blood, gross I know. Then it bled for a bit and is now a small open pin hole.

I have heard of that with the stitches. My dr is closed today so I may have to call tomorrow. Just seemed late to me to have this issue.

I had a similar issue which a couple of subcutaneous stitches when I fractured my ankle. Can you feel anything there..like at little hair or splinter trying to poke out? My problem was a "disolvable" stitch that didn't and was trying to come thru the skin so I just got some tweezers and worked it out.

Wow, that sounds painful. I would stick to washing with warm soapy Water until you hear from the doc. Let us know what the doctor says. I am 5 weeks out and would like to know what to look out for! I didn't know you could still have issues with the incision that far out. Hope it gets better soon.

Thanks. Nothing sticking out and this is an incision that tore open at the hospital. I'll let you know. So far it has just been bleeding a bit.

Go get some bactrim or some other antibiotic from the doc. Atleast go get some wound wash spray the heck out of it and pat dry with sterile gauze.

I am very Fortunate that I work in a place thats cleaned daily. I use wound wash daily just For added protection. I dont have access to a doc or a store , well not for another 13 days anyways. I am 26 days out and I have 2 holes in my stomach. I used some wound closures to keep em closed. If all else would have failed duct tape would have prevailed. In a nutshell I am being over precautious because salt Water increases staff infection.

Good luck but get it looked at. I personally wouldnt use neosporine but an antiseptic spray might help

Why does Almanza have to come into play? 6 other women and I went to Almanza Feb 17th and none of us had any kind of infection yet. I was the 2nd to last patient so the likely hood of unsterile utensiles would of have been greater if the were the case. After care is the greatest concern. You the patient has the greatest control. Take a shower. Try not to wash it vigorously but let the Water just hit the chest and run down to gently cleanse the wounds. Wash around the infections with hibiclense. Gently wash off. Get out the shower damp off with a towel. Then spray wound wash flushing over wounds. Damn off with a gauze. Place guaze over infected area lightly to help protect infected area from abrasion from clothes.

Its fool proof. Offshore EMT "MPIC" class wasnt good for nothing.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
