Hi there! Cushing's, in all it's many forms, is caused by too much cortisol in the system. Usually the ACTH and other hormones are also screwed waaay up as well.

Most often, Cushing's is caused by a pituitary tumor, second by a tumor(s) on the adreanal grands, and less often by tumors in the lungs or other places. It has nothing to do with the thyroid. Thyroid issues tend to be Hashimotos or Nelsons, among other things.

I have a pituitary tumor with cyclical Cushing's. This means that my tumor isn't always "on" it doesn't always secret too much cortisol. Sometimes I drop way too low, because I'm so used to have too much in my system, I get sick when it drops to normal ranges, or below normal.

If you are interested in more information about Cushing's, http://cushings.invisionzone.com/index.php? for the message board and http://www.cushings-help.com/intro.htm

Vinesqueen,

Thanks for correct information!

Many people do not understand the Cushing's problem. Even people with Cushing's like you and I have a lot of trouble understanding it. It is a very defiant and strange condition with a will of it's own.

Information for the understanding of others:

Cortisol is a steroid produced by the body. When there is too much cortisol it is like you are on double/ triple doses of prednisone and if you know anyone who has taken that and what it has done to their weight and the appearance of their body - then you will have some idea of what cortisol does to Cushing's people.

It also has tremendous effects on connective tissue, muscles, emotions and spirit!!!!!!!!

jude

PS: the ticker is a lie!

Thanks Jude and Vinesqueen for the most helpful information! The sites were awesome! By what I have read it sounds like you all have to work even harder to lose weight, so you should be able to automatically double the pounds you have lost!

Thanks again!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
