First Full Day Post Op!

Recommended Posts

I had a horrible night and morning because the pain meds made me puke, but I really wasn't puking because I had no food in my stomach. It was more like dry heaves. It was awful.

Then, this morning, at the barium test, I puked while still standing on the machine. I felt so bad for the tech. I don't think he was prepared for it. I felt worse than right after surgery. I was crying and thinking "Why did I do this to myself? What was I thinking????"

Then my new nurse came by, saw how horrible I looked and when I told her about the nausea she said "Oh, we'll just put you on something else." She gave me new meds. I slept for about an hour or two and I was a new woman! I walked around the floor, came back to the room, opened my laptop, ordered some food, you name it. She came back in and did a doubletake. I did a complete turnaround. I ordered 4 ounces of broth and ate it all no problems. Had some Jello, drank some Water. I was fine.

So, to make a long story short, I did so well today that they sent me home a day early. I'm feeling a million times better than this morning. And to think, all my problems were because of the wrong meds and NOT the surgery itself.

WOO HOO to the new me!

Congratulations! I'm glad that you're feeling better than how you felt starting out. I felt a little icky my first day or two and was having "buyer's remorse," but by the third day or so, I was feeling better for having had the surgery.

Best of luck with your recovery!

So sorry that it took them that long to figure that out but I am glad that you are doing better and got to go home. I know that I felt much better after being gone to Mexico for 6 days and was sleeping in my own bed. I hope that you continue to come along with no problems and best of luck on your new journey

Glad you are feeling better. It's surprising how common this is too. People have reactions to the pain meds or other things and think it is the surgery and then wonder why they feel so much better when they get home.

The exact same thing happened to me. Threw up-dry heaving the first night and the morning-and right after the leak test for me too-and they realized it was the morphine. So they gave me something else and voila....it was soooo much better. Go you!!! Congrats and hope you continue to feel great! Just remember to keep drinking. The only time I felt nauseous again was when I was dehydrated.

Thanks everyone! Today I'm really focused on drinking. I feel like I'm drinking so much but I'm only halfway through a 16 ounce bottle of Water. Everything hurts going down. But I refuse to get dehydrated so I'm dealing with it. I take my water bottle with me everywhere and every time I walk into another room I take a sip. In the bathroom, take a sip. Back to my desk, take a sip. I WILL finish this bottle of water!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
