Emotions Days Before Surgery

Recommended Posts

3 days to surgery and I'm sure as everyone else, I am excited, scared, stressed, lacking sleep, haven't gotten to pooping my pants yet. Please share how you felt so I know if I'm normal or not.

ur normal girl, i was even considering canceling the surgery because of the negative unsupported family members i was around, but i breath n went forward with it, it was hard because i was thinking about food n how it really does affect my mood n whole, its an addiction! n its always the bad food that we think about because it taste so good.. so ur ok to think that way before surgery time will fly n food is always is going to be there just in other forms, n this time its our choice whether we eat the right way, and do the right things so chill out n think about the positive out comes of ur surgery n why r u doing it.. Blessings

I had my sleeve done on1/19/12 and I never gotten scared. I did a lot of praying and put it in gods hands. That's all you can do. I've lost 40lbs and I'm 7weeks out and I'm so happy. Everything will be fine and it happens so fast your out before you know it.

I was on a TOTAL emotional roller coaster up until surgery. I'd say that started a couple weeks before. I was praying like my life depended on it! I also went to Dallas with my mom and boys for the surgery, as my husband was not able to come because of work, so that made it 10 times worse. After it was done, I was fine. But yes. Normal indeed!

Wow, up till the day before surgery I was excited it was finally going to happen. The morning of the surgery however, was a different story. I remember I was so scared that I told my hubby, son, the anesthiologist, nurses, and doc that I was really scsred and wanted to run. I was shaking so bad. I had all kinds of thoughts going through my head. But I went ahead and had the surgery and now at 5 months out, I have lost 68 lbs and look really good in my cloths that is. I am struggling with the last 38 lbs thought. LOL

I go by Nike's "Just do it." It has worked for me so far. I didn't let my anxiety stop me. It would have been so easy to say forget it, let's go to breakfast! But that is what has got me where I was up the that date!. No more for me. ;)

You are so normal!

I was pretty cool all the way up to surgery and though it, AFTERWARDS is when I nearly fell apart. I was back in San Diego after surgery in MX and thought I was going to pass out, heart was thumping, got hot and flushed and felt like I was spinning out of control. I lied down for a bit and it passed. Whew! What a letdown.

Thanks folks. Just had my preop tests, blood draw, chest X-ray, meeting with anesthesiologist. I'm going in waves. One minute I'm fine next I'm up in the air. Whew! I'm so glad to have all of you to help me through. By the way....told the anestesiologist that I was anxious. He said to let them know the day of the surgery and they would give me something for that. I asked if they could giv emu husband some too. Lol. He's more worried than I am poor guy.

I'm trying not to cry as I write this! I'm leaving for Mexico tomorrow morning at 5;30 am!! I have a thousand and one things to do, but for the life of me, I just feel nauseous.. I'm married with 4 kids a full time job, large family,... you name it.. While I have the support of my family, they aren't crazy about me going to Mexico.. My surgery is on Friday morning at 7, bought the tickets... no turning back now... I guess... Peace to you my dear.. I'll send some Angels to comfort you your way!

I'm about just over a month out for my surgery and am already having mixed feelings. I try to stay positive, keep excited and not freak out, but it is hard when you got all the Debbie Downers around you. I hope all goes well and wish you luck. You are almost there to a new chapter in your life.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
