Bad day and now I can't sleep

Recommended Posts

Disclaimer: I am likely to delete this later this week. This is not a good thing but it is bothering me to the point that I can't sleep. I don't think it is a good idea for me to call anybody and discuss this so here I go.

I have been working out of town, not unusual for me, but I have had several staff with me at different times over the past few weeks that don't regularly travel.

Today we worked until 7:30PM and then went back to the hotel. Decided to go to the bar and have a drink. I had one drink and went to my room and ordered dinner from room service, got online checked my e-mail, came here, etc.

My telephone in my hotel room rings and it is the wife of one of my male employees. She asked for her husband. I stated that she had the wrong room and said let me get his room number for you. She starts screaming at me and says I know he is in there; I know you are explicit my husband. I was stunned and I didn't know what to say, so I just said you are mistaken and I think you should call him. She demanded that I put him on the phone. I again calmly told her I can't put him on the phone because he is not here. She called me a few choice explicit names and hung up the phone.

I just sat on the bed for a few minutes thinking to myself; what the hell....

I honestly didn't know what to do and still don't. I went down to the bar and he was still down there so I just told him he needed to go call his wife. He looked at me very confused and I just walked away and came back to my room.

He is my employee (I am his direct supervisor), and he is very young, in his late twenties...........I am 39.

He came to work for me around March. I had never met his wife until a few weeks ago and we attended a scholarship gala. My husband was out of town so I picked up another coworker (female) and we rode together. When I was taking her home she said I don't think xxxx's wife likes you. When I asked her why she said she didn't think she liked the idea that he was working for a women. I just blew it off.

I will be meeting him and two other staff in the lobby at 7:30; isn't it going to be a fun day.

Wow, Barbara, that sucks. But it's his problem, not yours. Your employee's the one who's going to feel horrible, and he will indeed. I feel sorry for him, in fact; think about how he's going to face you! He's probably worried about his job right about now.

Yuck. You'd think this sort of thing went out with tube tops. That wife needs to wake up and smell the 21st century. Good luck!

Just think Barb, you look so good that a twenty something is jelous of you. Whhewwww you go banded.

Now as his boss is there something you should do, should you document it or tell someone else so it does not come back to bite anyone.

wow...yeah, that sucks for you Barb. You certainly can't ignore it, either. At least, I don't think so....you will prob have to discuss it with your employee.

Good luck....tough one!

Well, now, didn't he go and marry a needy one? She will certainly be a hindrance to his career. You handled everything very professionally. I would document the call, time and content, and your response, time and content.

Document whatever is said today in regard to it.

If you have a supervisor, I would pass that documentation forward, I think, just in case she is even crazier and calls up the line.

There is nothing here that reflects on you, but a real problem for your male employee, who cannot trust his wife. Now, whether he is trustworthy or not, who knows? But no woman should be calling her husband's supervisor and making accusations that involve the F word...that's just wrong, wrong, wrong.

Hope you got some sleep...

Wow Barb. I hope you got some sleep after you posted this. If it were me, I think I would have to have a converstation with my employee about it. He needs to know that his wife is going to ruin his career, because how one's family acts certainly reflects on the person.

I hope that today is better for you and that your phone doesn't ring tonight.

I don't agree that this is the employee's problem and not yours. If might very well become a big problem for you if you don't act on it. I would suggest calling a meeting with the employee and have a 3rd party present (either your equal or your superior). Spell out the problem, what will and will not be tolerated and consequences of this happening again.

I ABSOLUTELY agree with Elisabethsew. I feel bad for the guy because it probably will damage his relationship with the company, but you really don't want his wife's accusations damaging YOUR relationship with the company.

Document, document, document. WITH a third party.

(Was it at least an ego boost? - Is the guy cute? LOL I'm kidding.)

Sounds like this man and his wife have some very serious counseling needed. She is extremely insecure and obviously hurting. But what do we know of her reasoning? Perhaps he has given her reason not to trust him. I think in your discussion with him, I would certainly suggest he and his wife get counseling to prevent this further damaging his marriage or career.

I TOTALLY agree with everyone on going to your boss and letting him know what happened. See if you can get the hotel to provide you something that shows the inbound # calls you got that show when she called you. YOU MUST go to HR and your boss on this.

She's psycho!!! And God only knows if he told his wife some kind of lie or fantasy or what ever.

Yup, you've gotta call HR, and document this whole mess. Check your company's sexual harrassment policy, not that anyone has actually been harrassed, but frequently in the policy there is something that will help deal with situations.

I'm so sorry for you and everyone invomeved.

I still can't believe I posted this; I knew I might later regret it when I did it. I just wanted to talk to somebody so bad! I thought long and hard about calling my husband before I posted it but decided that might not be a good idea. I didn't want it to make him start to wonder, I know there is some of that anyway. Sometimes I just feel like I don't have anyone to talk to. That is especially true when it comes to the band because only my husband, brother and one friend know; no one else, not my mother, co-workers, etc. But, there are a few other situations like this one where I feel all alone out here. I worked so hard to get here and sometimes wonder if it is really worth it. I am rambling I know but I am just feeling really low right now; being extremely tired isn't helping either.

I did talk with him this morning; and I put him on the early afternoon flight home. Not as punishment but so he could go work out his problems at home. He has only been married a little over a year and he told me she (his wife) is pregnant.

I also called the Executive Director and told him after I put him on the plane. The Executive Director, CFO, and I all report to the Board of Directors so he is not technically my boss, but he used to be my boss before I moved up. I don't intend to take it to the board at this time and the HR Department is directly under me. And no, he does not work in HR; I have several departments I oversee. He is in a department without a Director at the moment which is why I am his direct supervisor. It is a different situation to deal with when the accusations are directed at you.

And, I did document it all. I am going to let it be for now and see if we can get finished tomorrow now that we are one person short.

Thanks for being my sounding board.........it is always nice to know I have LBT.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
