4 & 1/2 Weeks Post-Op And Having Major Nausea

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I am new to this and feeling desperate to get any feedback on a question I have...

I am 4 & 1/2 weeks out after my surgery and I have lost 35 pounds. I have had a very smooth recovery with no major issues. Since week 2 I have been doing cardio 4-5 days a week at the gym. Everything has been great!

BUT, yesterday I threw up three times after eating two notes of scrambled eggs. Since then, I continue to have terrible nausea and pain in my esophagus/upper throat whenever I eat. Did I do something terrible inadvertently to effect my healing progress? I know it isn't the flu. Help!

One person who was sleeved at my job told me it took 6 weeks to start on mushies...so, Im guessing it may still be too soon. Im still on liquids and I will be 4 weeks out on Monday. Everyone's journey is different though....

I'm no doctor... but it may be too much exercise too soon! I was not cleared for intense cardio till about week 6! I was encouraged to walk daily and move but not at a high intensity level. Also, like the poster above, I was not cleared for mushies till week 6! When I did start mushies, it was a very slow process; literally a table spoon or so = a meal! lol. I would check with my doctor just to be sure. But it may just be that your body wants you to slow down a little bit while it's still healing. I sure hope you feel better soon!!! Please post and let us know how your'e doing!!!!

I just wanted to add that I doubt tha you did "something terrible" or irreversible!!! It sounds more like a warning sign from your body.

I agree with both of the previous posts. You may just be trying to do too much too soon. Try slowing down a bit and going back to liquids. I know that my doc's office has always said if you throw up then you need to go back to liquids at least 24 hours and then introduce foods again slowly. I have thrown up only a handful of times but I always felt so horrible afterwards. Rest assured tho that there is prolly nothing horribly wrong with you or anything. I think many of us have been down your road before and it will be okay. Also, many many many people cannot tolerate eggs of any kind after this surgery, you may also be one of them. Anyways call your doc if you are worried but I think it will be okay. Get some rest, slow down, and dont try eggs for a couple days. Good Luck.

Thanks to all of you for the insight. I am going to go back to more of a soft/bland diet for a while. We will see how it goes.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
