Moving Along With The Process....

Recommended Posts

I had to go to my psych social visit yesterday and she told me I have "graduated" from having to see her. I saw her a total of three times. I have one person on the bariatric team who thinks I am ready for surgery! Yea! At the local bariactric program it is a team approach, all members on the team have to agree the person is ready for surgery before they can get a surgery date. I started the process of this mid Jan and have an 2nd indiv. nutritionist apt tommorrow and group nutrition classes on 3/8/12 then another visit with the bariactric physical therapist 3/29/12. A person doesn't get a surgery date for 6 months to 2 years so I am hoping I am one of the 6 months people and will get a date this summer like in July! Trying to stay motivated while I wait. I don't have to do weight loss visits through my PCP due to my insurance but the bariatric program still requires them. I go to my 2nd one next Fri.

I can't wait to get a surgery date!!!

Thanks everyone! It's is a long time to wait but I hope I can be one of the ones that gets a surgery date right after 6 months so maybe July of this year! Trying to stay motivated and change things I can now before surgery so it will be easier after surgery to be sucessful with the surgery!

There are so many inconsistencies with pre-op requirements it's hard to know which direction any of us will be going! My first thought is "6 months...ugh" but then I remember that my journey started 4 months ago already and I go to my consult next week. It has given me time, though, to throughly think this through and go forward without hesitation. Best of luck.

@ topgun...you are exactly right. I have a friend who had lap band and I recently asked her how quick she was able to have surgery starting from her first consult. She didn't have to do the 6 mth diet either...she said 1 mth...WOW....and then hearing others talk about how long their process is. Everyone IS different. I am hoping to get a clear idea of what my process will be like on Monday when I see my NUT and the surgeons insurance clerk for the first time...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
