Hello! I am new to the forum but have been lurking a while. I recently decided to move forward with VSG. I live in the Portland area and am self pay.

Are any of you Patterson patients self pay? If yes, do you what your total costs were? what was the timeframe from 1st appt to surgery with Dr Patterson?

If I can't afford her I may travel to Mexico. Did any of you Oregonians cross the border?

Does anyone have a PDX area WLS friendly PCP you can recommend?

Thanks!

I Was self Pay, contact me @ plygtrloud(at)gmail if you have any questions.

Hi peeps, I've seen a few people ask if anyone was from Eugene. I'm out in the country but get Downtown Every Day on my Normal work schedule. I would dearly enjoy some support, no one really can understand what I'm going through unless you've been there. Peace 2 U!

Hello and welcome!

I'm in Portland and m now 3 months post op. I had surgery in Mexico since I was self pay. I'm feeling great but understand what you mean about needing support. This site is a great resource for sharing ideas and experiences. you'll have no trouble finding folks who understand exactly what you're going through.

When was your surgery? How are you getting along?

Hi Frza, My surgery was Mid November and I'm getting along well IMO. I've made a couple of mistakes along the way but besides that I can't complain. I've dealt with the pain, the head trips and now that 2nd phase hump where all the gas is gone and your insides start healing back into each other. Today I went back to the liquid diet, that about all I've changed. I do well on the liquid and happen to really like Yogurt and Protein Shakes, I feel better at this point when I don't eat solid foods . If I do I can't get enough H20 or Protein because I fill up and I'm totally down with just chillin' on the liquids for a while. I feel so much better today too because I'm nice and hydrated again. I think once I get to where I can exercise again I'll be beyond the hump and just living life again.

There's a couple in this thread who live close but they haven't popped back in for a few days. I know one thing, I'm bored as all can be and am looking forward to going back to work at least part time. What does one do when they've played so much guitar every day they has to stop from painful fingers, has read all 5 books they checked out from the Library the day before surgery and become the first human to watch the entire sci fi catalog on net-flix? They eat! I don't and I won't. Maybe some sidewalk chalk? naa never mind ;)

Haha, I know what you do after blazing thru all of your entertainment: you come to VST and read every thread! at least that's what I did:)

I took it real slow with the eating, 3 weeks of clears! I didn't solids until week 5. I was fine with that, I too enjoyed shakes and yogurt. At 3 months post op I can eat anything pretty much.

Glad you're doing we'll feel free to contact me w/ any questions!

LOL you have captured me in my true form Frza. At least this evening I got to go out and play with friends at a local venu. I can't really stand up and play yet but it's so much more fun then staying home another night gah! One of the gals brought along her 12 year old daughter, this kid sang like a pro! She was amazing. It was nice to get out and use my surgery as an excuse to make my friends haul all my gear

Hey Frza and Zombie Piper,

I'm less than 2 weeks out until my surgery. Not going to lie--getting nervous. I've started taking knitting classes to try and have something to do when I'm healing up and off work.

I feel unprepared for my liquid diet and soft food phases. I want to try different Protein Shakes but am hesitant 1) because so many people say that their tastes changed so...what does it matter if I like it now if I might not in a few weeks. 2) I think the phase will be hard enough, don't want to add extra time so that I am burnt out on liquids long before I can be.

I'm on a 1200 calorie pre surgery diet. My surgeon said no cheating for the holidays so I haven't but I am not going to lie I'm eyeing all the holiday treats at work and parties like its porn. :-)

Glad to hear you're doing well. I'm sure I will have tons of questions (and posts) in a few weeks as I start bouncing off the walls and going through the post surgery phases (buyers remorse, food mourning, excited success, seeking moral support, etc).

Woobs

I'm in Medford Oregon and was sleeved almost three years ago by Dr. Aceves in Mexico. I've had really great success and no complications! Good luck with your surgery!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.
