February 25 Check In

Recommended Posts

Well people, another week has gone by. How is everyone doing?

Some great news today, I weighed in at 185 so that's two pounds down from last time so I'm excited :)

More good news... my hairdresser says my hair is in much better shape than it was a few months ago. Some of the shine is gone, and the texture feels a little different, kind of cotton-like. But it's not falling out like crazy anymore and actually coming back some. I think it looks pretty good.

So how is everyone else doing? Kristina- thank you for the encouragement last week. It really helped kick me back into gear.

No loss for me this week - that seems to be how it goes I lose every other week. Even though I still get between 800-1000 calories, sometimes I throw in a mini kit kat or a top of a cup cake for a snack. I always get my Protein in and my fluids - each day - no matter what. Just frustrating that my loss is so slow. I burned up the early months with my leak and instructed not to lose during that time and here I am. I did better than this on weight watchers. Frustrating :(

Your body is really confused right now. It will happen and the weight is going to start going down really soon. I think we both are at a point where the weight does get harder to come off because we are so close to goal weight. That means we have to work harder now to get a few oz off our bod's. Tomorrow I am going to get back to exercising by walking. Don't let that frustration get you down! ;)

Well I just realized I actually did lose .4 this week so I am happy to have lost a tiny bit even if it was like in the 1st day of the week! I guess I lost it last Sunday and was thinking it was already included in my loss last week but last week I was 157.2 and now am 156,8 so YAY! LOL Every little bit, got to keep telling myself that!!

Hello friends! I weighed 195 lbs Saturday morning, making me down 2.7 lbs this week. I am still losing steadily with no real stalls, but it is definitely slowing down. I am not complaining though, at least it is still going down!

Libbe, I think you are doing wonderful! Your body is healing from such a major trauma, plus you are close to goal, so it could be moving slower than you would like. But it sounds like you are doing what you're supposed to do, and if you keep that up there is no way you won't get there! So proud of how strong you have been through your ordeal, I know you can do this!

Debbie, I am so glad you are feeling back on track! I had a few days this week where I too was feeling less than successful, but I really do feel that we can do this, and that a few poor choices will not stand in our way. And I am so thankful for this forum, in particular this topic. You all are what keeps me focused. I look forward to our Saturday check in each week so I can see how you each are doing!

Have a great week All-Stars!!! We may be 6 months out, but we still got this!

Just weighed in and I'm down 1.8 for the week. Just 6.2 lbs to goal!

I have my 6 month Dr visit on Monday, I'm interested to see what the blood work shows. I'm feeling great although some days my hunger (real hunger) is at the same intensity as the pre surgery days. And I have succumbed to the call of the chocolate chip cookie on a few occasions.

Hope everyone has a great weekend

You are doing better than me! We started off with similar stats I think. I only did a one week preop and lost 9 pounds so my overall is 71 pounds and my since surgery is 62 pounds. I still think I am doing okay with losing 6 pounds a month. Thats my average in the last 2 months. I also lost about 6 pounds a month on weight watchers. I think a slow loss is better than no loss and my Dr. says I am way ahead of the curve. I am only 28 pounds from goal. Keep your chin up! I think its way easier than weight watchers ever was!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
