Hi all! I am a South African expat living in Kuwait and had my gastric sleeve surgery here, in Kuwait on 20 Feb 2012. I gather from some of the other posts that if I were in the US, the process of getting surgery would be a long one. In Kuwait it was a different story. I met with my surgeon 2 weeks pre-op, didn't have to bother about insurance approval, had to pay cash ( no insurance here would cover the procedure). my surgeon actually told me I had 2 weeks to eat what I wanted, because after the surgery it will be over.
On the day of surgery I weighed 133.1kg(roughly 293 pounds) fast forward 5 days and I am 7,5kg (16 pounds) lighter and feeling great. I was on Clear liquids the first 3 days and on full liquids, plain low fat yoghurt and low fat cottage cheese now. I must admit I miss crunchy, chewy food. Not because of the taste, but because of the texture!
So, that's me and my sleeve! I am hoping to learn and gather inspiration from the more experienced sleevers and perhaps be an inspiration and a source of information to the people who are thinking of doing the sleeve, especially in Kuwait, as I struggled getting info!
