  1. I remember them saying no ibuprofen. It is too late to call the doctor. What do others take at this stage for a headache?

  9. I am trying to decide between the sleeve and the RNY. I know it is just a tool and we have to work at it. I am just afraid that the sleeve will not be enough for me due to my weight. i have more than 200 lbs to lose. More like 250. I am a self pay so I don't want to do something that will not be enough. I am goign to see the surgeon tomorrow to discuss it but would like feedback from those who might be in similar boat. Thanks in advance.

    Surgery In 1 Week..will I Regret This?

There will be times (especially in the beginning) where you may be filled with doubts and even some regret. After all...we have all loved to eat at one point or another and so it is hard to not fall back into old patterns. But now we are forced to find a new way. That will lead to some hard days and yet at the same time you will find yourself feeling better and stronger as you lose weight. Over time you will most likely come to feel that this was the best decision of your life. For me it most definitely has been!

    Yikes!

You are not alone. We all have to adjust to being who we are in a different body. But remember that you decide what you wear. Just b/c you are thin doesn't mean you can't wear a big shirt or that you have to dress in some way that doesn't feel "you". I think you will find that as time goes on, you become slowly more comfortable and at ease with the new body you live in Embrace it and enjoy it but also do it at YOUR pace!

    Sleeve Stretching

It's pretty early still. Maybe your stomach just isn't ready for that kind of food. I stayed on shakes for a long time. A lot of people think we need to move to solid food as soon as possible but (in my opinion) there is nothing wrong with staying on shakes as long as you want. As long as you're getting the nutrition you need it doesn't matter the source. If your stomach can't do tuna then do something else. I have foods my stomach no longer tolerates for no real reason!! You will find things that work. Also, don't worry too much about stretching out your stomach . It is a big fear sleevers often have. We surely don't need to push it but at the end of the day we can't grow back 85 % of a stomach. So while you will be able to eat a bit more as time goes on, it will never be what it once was.
  15. I think you're doing great. I thought a lot about food too and worried that after surgery I wouldn't be able to eat it. I guess I went into a mourning so to speak on that one. But I would do it again in a heartbeat. Exercise is key. The fact that you are starting on that road now is fantastic. I would keep doing it daily if possible. Setting this pattern now is going to make a big difference in recovery as well.

    Vsg Longevity?

I think the long term results are really great. This is one of the wls surgeries with the least amount of complications. Since they aren't rerouting intestines, you don't have that extra complication to deal with. Since you don't have a lapband inside of you then you won't have to worry about slippage and other things that come with that. In my opinion, VSG has one of the least possbile complications. Like any other surgery they would do to you internally ( like a hernia repair or any other surgery) there could always be some potential thing that could happen later...but for the most part you heal and go on with life. I am 16 months out and I have not had any complications. It can happen but it is not (from what I have seen) the norm

    Not Feeling Well

You will probably be fine but just let the doctor know to be on the safe side

    Today I Start

Congrats on the path you are taking!! I struggled a lot with my pre op diet but I stuck with it for the most part. It really does help with shrinking your liver. For some reason the Premier shakes made me constipated. I know...TMI! But just FYI in case it happens. I live off of the Atkins shakes. They are my life line!
  19. Many of us had the last supper!! I would highly recommend that you also make a food 'trigger' list. The foods that you should never eat again or the foods you know to be trouble. I have a longer list for that one! And it has been a HUGE help to me to delete those foods from my life after surgery.

    My Biggest Fear

My biggest fear going in was that I would be the person this surgery didn't work for. That it just wouldn't work right from the start. I told my surgeon that my only fear was that he would not take enough of my stomach out. I will tell you that this surgery is not going to keep you from having to do some of the work but the difference is that now you CAN. It takes enormous willpower for us to have dealt with all the diets we have in life. So we are much stronger than we realize!! How many people would be able to keep finding the strength to try again? So you are strong. Now you will have the tool you needed all along to make you successful. Instead of shoveling a long snowy driveway with a spoon..you now have the shovel! You are going to conquer this!!

    Wondering

That is awesome! I am 16 months out and still cannot eat large quantities. I think this surgery is absolutely amazing and has wonderful long term results!
