For years I cursed my genetic pool because almost everyone in my family, even extended family, is overweight. Sure we have the occasional "freak" that is skinny no matter what they eat. (My family knows I'm kidding when I call them a freak). But I also need to praise my genes because my abdominal skin is shrinking nicely. I've lost 53# in just shy of 4 months. I had an honest roll of abdomen chub just below the belly button. I must tell you that I've had 4 kids so I didn't have much hope for my tummy roll. However, the roll is gone and the skin has shrunk up nicely. It's not flat but it looks far better than I ever thought possible. When I started this journey I started saving up for plastic surgery. I just "knew" I would need a Tummy Tuck, thigh lift, breast lift and to get my bat wings clipped. Just under four months postop and I am thinking I won't need a tummy tuck. What a revelation! I'm not looking to be a swim suit model so who cares about a completed flat tummy, right? I also think I could live with flabby thighs. Although my thigh skin is loose, it doesn't effect my walk or interfere with exercise. Now my breasts are a WHOLE OTHER STORY! I breast fed all four of my kids and knew they were a lost cost a long time ago, LOL! It's just nice to realize that my genes were not ALL bad. My genes also gave me a long thin neck....even when I was really heavy....and young looking skin on my face...miracle cuz I used to get a nuclear tan when I was a teenager. Thanks for letting me share. Big Hugs!

Did you ever think that our obesity gene was superior to the skinny gene? As of right now in our time where we live we dont need it thus we strive to get rid of it. But if you lived in mongolia or tibet our storys would be different. LoL

I am glad your skins shrinking back up to normal. Elastic skin. You gotta love it

What a genetic awakening! It's so true. In the land of excess my chubby gene is a hinderance but in the places you mentioned, I'd be the lucky one. I bet you would like a book called "Spontaneous Evolution" by Bruce Lipton. If you like to read, check it out...he has other books too.

I was in Jamaica earlier this month and couldn't help notice that most of the Jamaican people I saw were quite thin. Then all of a sudden I saw a Jamaican man who was overweight, I couldn't help wonder about the genetics of the Jamaican people. I'm kind of nerd like that though. LOL!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
