Recovery Time

Recommended Posts

I wanted to get some feedback on how long it took others to start feeling "normal". I had surgery over a week ago (July 24) and I'm still having some pains, my stoma is still swollen, and I'm just feeling exhausted all of the time. I'm tired of not feeling well, and now I'm getting worried that something's not right, because so many people talk about what a "fast recovery time" the lap band surgery has.

It took me about 3 weeks to feel normal.....of course I was up and about and back to work much sooner than that...but in terms of having all my energy back etc...and mentally/emotionally "normal" (my hubby may big to differ!!) it took longer.

So, no worries.....I think you are right on track!!!

My surgery was on a Monday morning, and was pretty much 100% by Sunday. had little incision discomfort after about 72hrs. But still can't sleep on my port side, and im 16 days post surgery. feeling normal "headwise" probably took 10days or so

Hi,

I had surgery the same day as you. I just now starting feeling like a human being. I've been feeling better as each day goes by. My only real complaint is I'm having a hard time sleeping on my bed.

But, for the most part, I'm off the pain killers and am alert and pretty much pain free.

I"m seeing my Dr. tomorrow for my after surgery follow up, and am hoping she'll let me eat. I"ve been a week on liquids and am ready to try out my teeth.

Hope you're feeling better soon

I had a really rough time for 2 weeks....really didn't feel up to par for about 3 weeks....long as you are without a fever or other symptoms of fever I think your doing pretty good....

Don't forget your not eating as much as you used to either.....

Hang in there!!!!

God Bless,

Melody

You sound about right to me...I was driving after a week...but still sipping liquids. I was easily tired, but kept going. I just rested when I could.

I'd give myself a month to really be 100%.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
