Well, don't feel too bad. I arrived in Stuttgard, Germany this past Sat morning and my friends husband lives to eat. One day it will catch up with him though. He's not a skinny guy now, although not too terribly overweight. My friend did tell him I had the WLS, but he still doesn't seem to understand I can't eat much. Had some wonderful food though....

Today, I arrived in Portugal where I will stay for a week at an equestrian riding program. It is an all inclusive deal (loding, food, riding, etc). It is wonderful here, but they serve SOOO much food. The wonderful dear ladies who prepare the food speak Portuguese and so they understand very little english. I've only had 2 of their meals so far and oh my gosh... so much food. Some wonderful fresh fruits though for lunch like Kiwi and some sort of delicious grapes. But, still they serve enough food for one person to feed even a normal person beyond their need. I am gonna have to do some major power walking every morning at a minimum this week oh my gosh...

Gonna try and take pictures of the food they prepare not so much about the portions, but the preparation technique is just amazing!!! I know this post doesn't exactly fit in this thread, but since you were talking about traveling and not eating right- I thought I would pipe in my 2 cents. I am not able to weigh myself and am simply using my jeans to tell me what's going on with my lose/ gain ratio. Right now my tummy is poofy, and I know I ate too much. The ladies seem to worry they didn't cook well if you don't eat, so not sure how I'm going to communicate this to them the rest of the week. They are so sweet!!!

Portugal is awesome so far, but boy when the sun goes down, brrrr!!!!!

Awwww, I blew it this weekend. Didn't lose a thing. Didn't gain at least. I was out visiting my husband in Arizona. We go to Breakfast and I eat eggs, bacon and hash browns -- a miniscule amount, but still.

Then I find myself on the Yavapai reservation watching a rodeo. I'm hungry. Lessee here: Mutton ribs? Nahhhhh. Mini Navaho taco? OK! For those who do not know, A Navajo taco is frybread (much like fried pizza dough) spread with chili, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, onions and sour cream. BTW, mini to our Native American friends is the side of a medium pizza -- almost. So then we end the day in this tourist trap steakhouse and I have a salad with the best blue cheese ever. BAD CHOICE. I eat a little of that and I can't eat the ribs because I'm full on salad and blue cheese!

So on Sunday I get up before church and eat a couple baby back ribs, then a couple peanuts and a cup of coffee. Breakfast of champions right?

After church we go to this soda fountain I've been dying to see. BTW I recommend this place. Real soda fountains are hard to find and this one does sundaes, malts, shakes, phosphates, egg creams and ice cream sodas. The available flavor will make your head spin. Ever had a mai tai soda? How about coconut soda and chocolate caramel ice cream to make a German chocolate cake soda. I would have done it backwards with chocolate soda caramel and coconut ice cream, but I digress.

http://www.yelp.com/...ountain-phoenix

Anyway, I had a strawberry ice cream soda. I couldn't get through half the scoop and 1/4 of the soda, but I was in heaven. Add to that a couple bites of a reuben sandwich, a bite or two of potato salad and a half of a good Kosher dill pickle. Before I leave on my 11 PM flight I have the last of the leftovers and more peanuts. Then I get to the airport and the only snack I could find that wasn't too bad was white cheddar popcorn.< /p>

Okay folks. This is a blueprint of how NOT to eat. I should have gain a few pounds. Today I am drinking lowfat Soup and eating Greek yogurt to sooth a sleeve that didn't know what hit it. No, my stomach's fine. It only SHOULD have complained more.

Screw the food (although I'm sure it's wonderful). Send pictures of you and the horses. I'm SO jealous!

I am so excited for you Lynda and Forensikchic! CONGRATS! Now that weight is slower to come off, like at a stand still, can I ask what your diets look like? I am so stuck and I thought that if I upped my calorie intake, it would jolt the weight loss to happen. And it hasn't happened yet! So I really respect the experts on this site who have been successful.

You can see my diet on Myfitnesspal.com with my usernane: dorrierobles2003. Any feedback would be helpful. I have been pretty adamant on logging up until friday and then I left town for the weekend. The mountains were absolutely beautiful. Thanks ;)

Thank you!

I checked your diet and nothing jumps out at me. Instead of the Protein Drink, I have greek yogurt almost every morning to get help get my Protein in. I am exercising most days. I walk for 45 minutes 3-4 days a week and take a group exercise class twice a week. Also, I weigh my food on a food scale. I find it easier and more accurate than using a measuring cup or eyeballing it. I am also careful to get in the 64 oz. of Fluid a day and take the Vitamin supplements my program recommends.

At 5 months out, I got around 800 calories a day. You might look at trimming back a bit on nuts and cheeses and see if it makes a difference.

A lot of people do stall, so don't give up! It will come off!

Lynda

Hi all,

I'm at goal, but I am going to continue updating my weight each Friday. Today I was at 135.4. I'm OK bouncing a little up and down, but the whole goal weight management is going to take some work on my part.

I still can't believe I'm actually here :-)

Im not doing so well either. AF came to visit yesterday and brought two pounds with her! I am back down one of those pounds but still a net gain of 1.2 so far this week. I am not officially weighing in until Sunday to put my final results for this challenge but It is not looking good. Was going for 154 and I am at 157.6 right now. I have lost some inches in the last two weeks though so that helps my feelings. I was soooo hoping to finally make a challenge! I am so close! Just about 3 more pounds. Its only Tuesday so maybe with AF leaving at the end of the week, she will take a lot more than she brought! good luck everyone in this final week of the challenge. Tammi

So in the interest of full disclosure I will tell you all that I took 2 pounds off my Easter goal. 186 was an arbitrary number, but 188 is exactly my halfway point. It is also 50% of my excess weight and all the weight my surgeon said I could expect to lose at all. I'm going to go in at my 3 month appointment on the 16th and tell him to stick this in his statistics ;-)

OMG! I am so excited, I lost weight since yesterday. I went from 154.2 to 153.8. I know it's only a couple of ozs, but I'll take it. It was weird, yesterday I did a very low carb low cal day and in the evening, my words weren't coming out right. LOL I knew I was in ketosis and knew that I had lost some weight, but didn't weight myself until this morning. Miracles do happen, and even if I didn't lose the ozs, I would be fine with who I am today. BTW, I had also went for a power walk in the am. ;) I do need to keep exercising. ;)

Hi all,

Life at goal: Today I was at 132.7. I've been eating a lot of junk and not participating in formal exercise as much this week, but I've been running around like a mad hatter getting ready for an Easter Party for 40 at my house.

I can't believe the difference a year has made in my life. Last year I was weighing about 222 and waiting for my surgery date on May 17. I was so tired as I got ready for the Easter party. My feet and knees ached. Everything was such an effort!

This year, I have breezed through preparations, my feet and knees feel great, and I've got this afternoon off to do what I want!

Happy Easter to all of you!

Lynda

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
