How Successful Was Your Surgery?

Recommended Posts

How successful was your sleeve surgery on a scale from 1 to 10 (1 being not at all successful, 10 being as successful as you could ever imagine)? How do you rate the success of the surgery? How long ago was your surgery, and did you have different ratings throughout the learning process?

Thanks in advance,

Melissa

I'd have to say a 10. I had surgery 53 weeks ago and I've lost 200+ lbs so I think that's a 10. It's pretty been what I expected.

Hey Melissa, although I am a newbie (sleeved on Jan 25th) I DO feel like my sleeve is successful because without it I would be eating TONS more calories and continue gaining weight. It causes restriction, reminds me to eat mindfully, CHEW and actually enjoy my food, feel full from 2-4oz of food and that's why I give it a 10! I learned what head hunger is and how it controlled me and now I can enjoy the smell of food without feeling hungry! I love it :) I don't regret a thing and so far it's been good, hope I helped.

My sleeve was 50 weeks ago (fast approaching my 1 year mark). I have lost 108 pounds, gone from a 24W to a 10 petite and am much healthier and in better shape. I am exercising >5 times a week.

I would rate my sleeve a 10.

I won't give a number rating now bc I feel I haven't been sleeved long enough to really know (6 days) but I've lost 14.5lbs in those days so that's definitely something to think about!

My husband said my surgery took 45 mins but my time in the recovery room was more than double that.

I am about 2.5 months out Sleeved on Nov 28, 2011 and i must be a slow loser, ive lost a total of 50 pounds pre-op diet and down 32 pounds since surgery. Even thou I feel as if im a slow loser I would rather lose it slow then not at all. I love my sleeve. Have gone from a BMI of 47 down to 35 and im working out at the gym a few times a week. I would make this choice again anyday!!

I would totally say a 9. If I didn't lose a ton of hair I would say 10!! Super happy and I know I will make goal in the next 6 months!

I would also rate a 10. I received my sleeve on Jan 24, 2012 and have already lost as of last Tuesday ( I only weigh once/wk) 21 pounds!

How about a 12? I, like many was worried that it just wouln't work for me. Nowat 14 months out and closing in on 175 pounds down the success is far greater than I could of hoped or imagined.

ALL of my health issues have cleared up, I have more energy, feel better and look far better than I have ever been my entire adult life.

I'd rate it a 10, as well. I am 13 months post-op and at my lowest weight ever in my adult life (I am 57.) I think I'd rate the whole experience a 10--I had an easy recovery, no complications, and no problems sticking to my program.

I would rate my surgery a 10. I have lost almost 70 pounds in six months time. I feel so much better about myself, and I have so much more energy. I am happier because I feel better. I haven't had any problems, and I love that I don't get hungry and am able to be satisified with small portions of food.

Best of all, I am so happy that the symptoms for my ankle have disappeared. I have severe arthritis, and before surgery my ankle throbbed and ached and swelled. It limited my physical activity. Losing weight has allowed me to quit taking meds for my ankle. I no longer have to limit my physical activity. I was limping quite a bit, especially in the morning. I limp less now.

I have always limped for the first step or two since I injured my ankle. When I was heavier, I limped for a much longer time. Now I am back to just the first step or two when I first wake up.

I'll have to say 8-9 at this point. I'm 7 months out and have lost 89 lbs. But the last 2 months have been really slow and really hard. The hunger is back and the carb cravings. I'm having to struggle as much as I ever did not to eat all the bad things. BUT, the sleeve keeps me from eating as MUCH as I used to. I'm still losing just at a much slower rate. I guess I'm just sad that it's not as easy now as it was the first 4-5 months. But I would still do it again in a heartbeat and I know that if I put just a little more effort into it I will lose the last 50 lbs.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
