The Bariatric "food" Card

Recommended Posts

Can anyone direct me to a link that I can buy the baraitric card (on a keychain, maybe?) that I can get my doctor to sign saying I have had surgery, whatnot, please allow to order a smaller portion or not pay full price at a buffet, etc?

I want this too. I forgot to ask about this at my six week appt too. Do we have to get these through our docs or can we get them another way?

I'm sure there are other sources, but my nut. always handed them out to anyone who wanted them, during support group. It may be worth giving your doc a call.

I talked to them and they did not have it. When I asked about creating one, they spoke in terms of seeing where they could buy one and what the overhead was - wtf? I hope they didn't mean it the way it sounded. I am going to print out that earlier link, and mail it certified to my doc, and then email to see if they intend to charge to sign it (something they should offer anyway!) - and I plan on reporting it here. Nitpicking doctors who have been paid very well need to be outed.

Celebrate sent me one when I ordered some of their products. I have never used it (I like leftovers from restaurants and don't eat at buffets) but I appreciated the gesture.

I have a card that says I've been sleeved. I keep it behind my driver's license in my wallet. It asks restaurants to let me order from the kid's or senior menu and also alerts medical personnel not to do a blind NG (nasal gastric?) tube on me. My doc had it waiting for me at my first post-op appointment.

I also have a note under ICE on my phone that says who my contact is and to see the Notes section of my iPhone. In there I keep a list of my meds, updated weekly, along with my surgeon's name and phone number and some quick information about my health. Hopefully, both my phone and my purse will be handy if there is an emergency. Oh, and I didn't get that idea out of my thick skull. There's a long thread about emergency information somewhere here.

My surgeon gave me a card either at my preop appt or the first postoperative. Can't remember which it was.

Before I even had my surgery, my Surgeon gave me a card that says:

"The holder of this card has had stomach surgery which limits his or her stomach capacity. Please allow her or him the opportunity to order from your children's or senior's menu. Thank you for your support."

On the back it has a message for Emergency Personnel saying only to place a stomach tube under fluoroscopy and no liquids greater than 6 ounces.

It also has the hospital logo on the front "Flagstaff Medical Center Northern Arizona Healthcare" on the card and it is laminated. I use this card every time I go out to eat and have never had a problem. I would bring this up to the doctor's office. I am sure that the doctor's offices would be happy to make these up.

I guess I'm in the minority here, butI got one of those cards from my Dr.'s office and tossed in the trash. I had no intention of whipping this card out to tell strangers about this surgery. I can see the benefits for emergencies, etc... and I guess if you don't want to be hassled about ordering from the kids menu. Like another person mentioned, I don't mind the left overs.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
