Do Anyone Have A Bmi Over 60

Recommended Posts

I found it hard to believe, but I started with a BMI of 69! I refused to consider a Bypass for many reasons, and was thrilled when I first read about the sleeve.

My surgeon tried to tell me I could do better with the Bypass, but I felt very strongly that I wanted a sleeve. For many people the sleeve is done, and then later converted to a bypass if you don't lose enough weight.

I am only about 2 1/2 months out, so I can't say whether or not I will eventually lose enough, but at my age (57) I don't need to be a size 6 in the end. (I am 6' tall). I would be happy to be 250!

There are others on this forum who have lost over 200+ and one gentleman who has lost over 275# in one year!

Personally, I think the benefits of the sleeve far outweigh the benefits of a bypass. With a Bypass you may lose the weight faster, but eventually that evens out between the sleeve and the bypass.

The sleeve allows you to eat mor normally. More food choices, no dumping. Also no malabsorbtion issues. Your body is able to get the nutrients it needs from the food.< /p>

Only you can make this decision. My surgeon said mine was one of the hardest he has had to do-but he did it. Laproscopicly and I had NO pain and NO complications at all. I was able to resume eating a completely normal diet at 4 weeKs.

I can eat almost anything I want, a meal generally consists of a 3 oz portion of a Protein and 1/2 cup or so of vegetables. I eat 3 times a day and have no desire to snack inbetween (for the most part). I miss eating a big meal-but that is in my head, not my stomach and would apply to either surgery. I occasionally have some bread, or crackers, but it really doesn't appeal to me and since I can consume such a small amount I hate to waste it on a filler like bread or Pasta.

I hope this answers some of your questions.

I am over 60, in fact mine is 70. My Dr said he wouldn't do an rny on me until I was at a 55. Works for me though cause I have no desire to be rerouted. I want to maintain as close to a normal eating life as I can...meaning getting all my nutrients from food and no immediate bathroom trips after eating something. I'm more than happy to gradually drop the weight over the next year or so if it means that everything is still connected as god intended.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
