Not Even Two Weeks Post-Op And My Blood Sugar

Recommended Posts

is normal. My blood pressure was 112/77, my good cholestrol is up, my bad cholesterol is down 50+ points, my lipids took a 100 point dive. My PCP is amazed.

Sorry I'm posting new topics so much, but I can hardly believe this. As mentioned in another post, my eczema is gone, my rosacea seems to have disappeared and I feel better than I have in years. It's amazing how crappy was my old normal.

Oh yeah, I down a size in pants and shirts.

The only thing of concern is that I have a temp of 100. This big incision might be a little infected. I see my surgeon later today.

AWESOME!! Its amazing how these things resolve. I haven't had any official bloodwork, but I was told not to take my metformin until my 6 week appt and when i've been spotchecking my blood sugars, they are all nicely in the normal range, so I'm hopeful I'm done with diabetes meds too! So great to see your progress. keep it going!

I've got one of those doctors that think once you are diagnosed even if you have normal reading, you are a diabetic for life. What's up with that?

Cattracks, You're rocking that sleeve!! Your doctor is overly cautious, IMO. Once you're diagnosed, you have a pre-disposition for diabetes for life, but many people control their blood sugar through diet and exercise. My MIL stayed off the pills/shots for 25 years with diet and exercise. Because she also has RA, she's now back on pills to control her diabetes, but it's not because of her weight. :)

I'd say 25 med-free years is awesome, and I'd take that over being overweight any day!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
