Pre-Op Diet Started... This Sucks! Any Advice?

Recommended Posts

I'm on day 9 of the 14 day pre-op. The first four days were torture! Part of that was self induced since I had not gotten off caffeine before it started like I should have. I was away from the house at a seminar all day on Sunday and couldn't do a Protein shake. Also I have not told the people I was with about the surgery and didn't want to bring attention to myself at lunch with questions of why I wasn't eating. So I ate a very small amount and honestly felt guilty the whole time for eating.

I have the chocolate bari-essentials. I have found that if I go ahead and mix up the shakes and keep them in the refrigerator, by the time I drink them all the air and bubbles have gone away and it tastes much better to me. Crystal light and sugar free popsicles have been my best friends.

I too have been reminding myself that this is a serious and major surgery and I need to try with every ounce of energy and will power that I have to keep on track so it can go as smoothly as possible. Hang in there. We can do this!!

I have been on the pre- op diet and only have 4 days before surgery. I read all your comments above and I feel SO ANXIOUS!!! I lost about 5 pounds in the first week, but I am still unable to curb my hunger at night. I am not looking for excuses, but I take steroids to keep flair ups of the "Sweets Syndrome" I have, at bay!! I have been on daily steroids for the past 8 years since being diagnosed and will have to take it for the rest of my life. They cause serious hunger, not just cravings. I am so worried after what I read above about "open surgery". Are anyone else on steroids? How did this effect being sleeved? I have so many medical issues and I guess I just need support tonight. Thank you!

The pre-op diet sucks. The liquids after suck. The full liquids suck. The mushies suck. The weight loss? Priceless. I'd do it all again to feel as good as I do now.

NCstatebabe, I have surgery on Monday so I will let you know the cheese I have been eating messes anything up. I am praying it doesn't. I just had to had some substance to chew on. I am already sick of the Protein Drinks. I have just been gulping them down like a bad medicine. I know I can't do that afterwards, but for now that is what I am doing.

Are you using the Bari Essentials Dr. Kim sends out? I start on it Monday.

Day 7 Pre-Op liquid Diet Check-in...down 11.4 lbs...Hit the wall on yesterday :banghead: , but my husband kept me on track  . I can say this...If I don't have another shake for the rest of my life, it would still be too soon. LOL But loving the popsicles though!

So far so good, still taking it one day at a time, I will admit I am having a strange craving for a cracker, that's right folks ONE cracker! Ha Ha Ha ....But besides that everything else is cool.

Saturday I went to smoothie King and got a Protein shake..it was cool, just a chance to break up the flavors for me.

So there is my update for all my Sleeve twins(2/6)...6 more days to the losers bench

Operation Sexy 2012 in full effect!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
