How Was Your Experience At Florence Hospital?

Recommended Posts

I'm getting so excited! I can't wait to get a date set and get this journey started. I could be well on my way to a healthy weight by this summer. I just wish I had paid to have my passport expedited. I would love to schedule for early March and get my airline tickets purchased. DD

I had surgery yesterday and it went well, but I literally feel like I was run over by a truck! This was a sleeve revision so I knew it would not be as easy as my band surgery, but just hate feeling like crap. Skinny here I come!

I'm planning to go wih Dr. Kelly at Hospital florence. Boy oh boy! When I finally book this and confirm I will be on cloud 9! I am also going directly through Dr. Kelly. The coordinators and all their drama are a big turn off for me! I have heard that the guest bed at Florence is very uncomfortable. Has anyone found that to be true? I'll be bringing my mom with me and she's a bi of the Princess & the Pea!

I am also booking directly through Dr. Kelly, and am having my surgery on 3/15. I am looking forward to going, and am glad to hear about so many positive things about him and the hospital.

The rooms at florence are large, they include the hospital bed, full size guest bed & some of the rooms have recliners (mine didn't). I've sat on the guest bed and it's really not comfortable in my opinion, but I'm a bit of a bed snob and used to my comfy bed at home. I guess each room will be different. If your lucky and get rooms on the right you will have a nice view ( I wasn't a lucky one). One suggestion is to bring earplugs because it was nice to tune out all the activity in the hospital.

Wow ... there really are no coincidences!!

No sooner than I emailed Dr. Kelly, but 10 minutes later Omar calls me from his office and says that Trish has been swamped! he gave me their direct email (the one I had was her personal email), and he said that Trish was on her way to the office. Any questions I had, i could always email at info@wls4life.com and they would be answered right away.

THEN, Trish calls from her car, saying she was headed to the office and would get a letter to me within the next 2 hours (after Dr. Kelly's surgery)!! I told her not to rush like that... It's okay :biggrin5: ...

Called my benefits people, they told me exactly what I needed for a withdrawal... I emailed Trish and Omar at the email address they gave me.. and we are off!!

Woo Hoo.. I know I don't have a date yet ... looking at the beginning of March... but i feel like I've gotten something started!!

Can't wait to join the losers club... Thanks again you guys... Loving this forum!

I will be sleeved with Dr. Kelly on Feb 4th, Trish is my coordinator. I totally believe I made the right choice with booking with her. She will walk you through every step! I can not wait!!!

I’ve seen both Mi Doctor and florence. My sister had surgery at Florence and my cousin at Mi Doctor. Mi Doctor is hands down MUCH nicer than Florence/Oasis. Florence is quite old and my sisters room was not very clean. She also was not able to have her leak test done there. They took her to another hospital for that. I think that Florence just rents a floor from Oasis so they can’t use the entire hospital. If you can choose which hospital to have your surgery, my advice is to go to Mi Doctor.

I was sleeved on 1/18 and stayed in room #214 at Florence Hospital. The reason I'm mentioning the room number is because it the furthest room from the nurses station: and that's where I think most of the noise comes from. My husband slept in the hard-as-a-brick guest bed. That room also had a recliner when we were there. I was told that all the guest beds are equally uncomfortable. It's the price we pay to get this done. The only thing I can think of would be to bring an eggcrate mattress (you can find them online or at Steinmart pretty cheap) and don't open the bag until you get to the hospital. Otherwise you won't be able to fold it back small enough to get it to MX. Here's a thought: maybe one or two people could invest in the eggcrates then leave them with Trish or someone reliable for the next sleever. It will make a world of difference for anyone who has to sleep on that bed, trust me. The hospital bed by contrast was extremely comfortable.

I was just at Florence Hospital and the room was extremely clean. It's an old hospital, but so is Mi Doctor. By the way, if you use Dr. Kelly you won't have your leak test done at Mi Doctor either. Dr. Kelly uses Hospital Angeles which appeared to be one of Mexico's newest hospitals. Surgery there would cost around 10K for use of the hospital alone. The leak test is done in a very sophisticated lab by an independent lab technician. So don't be misled. Read other peoples reviews on here and make your own decision.

thanks for posting that. Honestly I think everyone's experience is different and your right, you just have to do your research and go with what you are most comfortable with. I am excited, nervous...I don't know, I am a little worried about an uncomfortable bed for my sister who is coming with me, but I am thinking I can bring a foam pad or buy one at the Walmart there for her so that it's not as bad.

Anyway, thanks for sharing your recent experience. :)

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
