I managed to get my steps in today! wooooo! I have blisters all over my feet though.. argh!

Congrats Leila!!! Be careful of those blisters....from personal experience...they can become baaaaad (I was hospitalized once for 'em!). So....just treat your feet well during this phase where they are getting used to the torture you are putting them through! LOL

I am 4 weeks in my banded life and I had grilled shrimp last weekend. I think alot of it depends of fully chewing stuff so that it couldn't possibly get stuck...

You'll learn as you go what's going to work and what won't, just trust yourself...you'll do fine!!:biggrin1:

Sunshine

Exactly. For example, I know a lady who has been banded for 5 yrs (lost 200 lbs) and one of her mainstays is shrimp. They are full of Protein and are good for you...she eats a lot of them in stir frys.

Up 2 pounds !? In the morning!? What?!

Brush it off, Mandi, brush it off.... stay away til next wednesday... it'll be ok.

:omg:

Woo! Congrats! I think I can safely say I've gotten 2 x 30 minutes of exertion this week so far. As long as I do once more this week, I'll be happy.

thansk sunshine on the shrimp thing. so I am confused ads i thin I have asked just about everybody,..BUT with out ANY restriction one still has to chew like crazy???I don't understand if the band is on but not tightend why the opening would be smaller to get something into??? That is what worries mer. iwant to be normal again where if and when Ilose this weight..I can eat wuith friends without takign hours, thta i can go on vacation without having to make my food mush beforeit gets down. No honestly I would appreciate some fedback since I am thinkign if i am worried about all of this now, does it mean that i am seting myself up for failure? that perhaps I am not serious? I mean am i throwign 16,000 down the toilet? I have done the private thign with a couple of folks and REALLY would liek to TALK to someone. I mean on the phone not always her on line where I don't always get it. I am sane, I am a mum, I am not asking to phone you everyday just once to get my answers. I like my privacy and do not want to be harrassed, so I would not do that to anyone else. So I hope someone will talk to me the old fashioned way. So would someone PLEASE private me and let me know, and I can give my number or call you long distance. I appreciate it.

Hey Kim, I hope you didn't think that *I* thought you were insane, or would harass me!

I'm sure someone's already gotten back to you about this, but if you still need someone to talk to on the phone, tell me. I'll have to give you my number, cause I don't have long distance! :omg: lol

I'm wondering if you're thinking that you'll be able to lose all your weight, get your band 'deflated' and then go back to normal... is that what you mean? I can honestly say that I don't think you'd ever be able to eat like you do now, again, after you've been banded. It's very likely that if you did have your band defilled all the way after losing all your weight, that you'd gain it all or at least some back. Not necessarily FOR SURE, cause as I've seen here, some people who've lost their bands for various reasons are able to keep alot of the weight off. But don't count on that.. or plan on it. You won't be able to (or shouldn't be able to) get a complete defill, because you're going on a cruise or something, and wanna be able to hit all the buffets and eat as much as you'd like.

Even when I was 'empty', I couldn't eat as much as I'd like to, or as much as I used to. But you know what, you don't need to eat alot... the amount you're able to eat after you get banded will eventually become the NEW normal to you.

You can go out with friends, and eat! You just don't have to eat alot. You won't take hours to eat a plate of food, cause most likely after 20-30 minutes you'd be so full you wouldn't be able to eat anymore... you'll be full, and won't WANT to eat anymore. You are going to have to chew well... always. There's no getting around that one.

I don't think you're setting yourself up for failure, but I think you need to know that it's not going to be the same afterwards... even before your fill. Even if you can eat more than you think you should be able to, you'll still have to chew everything, eat slowly, and thoughtfully ... or you'll have consequences, like getting something stuck!

I hope that kindof clarifies some stuff. This is all up to you. Do whatever you feel is right.

Yes, I agree with Mandi. I think your thinking that you won't be able to eat like you did before. Thats making you nervous, but when your banded you wont want to eat what you did before because you will be full and satisfied. Having said that, when I had "my little moment" there last week, it was kinda about that. I was (for whatever reason) feeling the need to binge. If I wasnt banded I would have absolutly have eaten everything I could have found. But I couldn't, and when I did manage to feed myself I had to chew and chew, and that takes away the fix. So I was frustrated, I (we) have to find another way to satisfy that, THAT IS NOT HUNGER, it is whatever it is that has brought us to the band to begin with. At the most worse time last week, when I was really feeling crazed, you would have NEVER, NEVER convinced me to take out my band. It's mine, it helps me to stay on track, to be strong, etc....

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
