Replying To Posts

Recommended Posts

This is just a suggestion when replying to someone elses post. Just possibly when replying to someones post you could just respond to the post. Some feel the need to "quote" others posts to make their post seem more important. Each and every person who posts in this forum is entitled to their own opinion without others picking it apart. It is theirs and not yours so try and be considerate of others.

Post you own thoughts and leave the others opinions alone.

I quote other's post to put my reply in the proper context. Sometimes, I am replying to the original poster's topic, other times, I may be replying to a response to that original post, which I will then perhaps quote that response for clarity.

I think it is important though, if you are not quoting the entire post, to be sure not to exclude anything remotely important. When in doubt, over-quote.

I can't say I have really seen users use a quote to make their own post seem more important, though. It just helps to clarify what their response refers to.

the reason some posts are "quoted" is to ensure that the proper post is recognized as being replied to. There's a purpose for the quote button, and that would be it :)

PdxMan....I do not need any advice from you and as far as I am concerned all you do is bring others down that post to other posts. Please do no respond to me again.

Holy smokes. I've never had the impression that anyone was trying to make their post seem more important. We are all here to learn and share the knowledge that we have regarding any number of topics.

Personally, I find the tone of your initial post and then the above reply to Pdxman more offensive than anything else I've seen here. I've never had a conversation with him, but I've read his posts to other people and have not read anything even remotely negative. He's articulated his experience(s) or shared knowlege that he's read. Correcting someone is not bringing someone down.

Here is just a sample of a private email that I received about certain people on this forum. I will not include the name as I started this and will finish it.

You were able to find the other person on here that drives me crazy. He always thinks he's right, and everything he says is the gospel. I'm sure it seems like he's always doing it to you, but he seems to do it to a lot of people.

I have lots of catty thoughts about him, but since I only know him via his posts, at this point I'll keep them to myself!

Stay well!

I think I will look for a different group for support as a couple of my private emails have been thinking of.....it's too bad that some people ruin it all for others. Oh and no I did not make this up for those of you who think you are perfect and know it all.

I agree with this. Andersonlj you were called rude on another post and I agreed with that too. I don't know what is happening to you. The other day I thought one of your posts was so sweet to a fellow poster that I mentioned it on one of my posts. I am here shaking my head. There is a fine line between being honest and rude. I walk that line everyday and hope that I don't cross it. You are crossing it.

Posting private emails even without the name is very rude as this is a "public" forum.

As for the subject behind this thread, I don't get it. I use the quote button sometimes and will continue to if I am referencing a particular post. I don't think many people come here to "feel important". I think we just come here to learn from the vertical sleeve experiences of others.

Not to worry about me anymore as I am closing my account on this forum. I have sent an email to the administrator to remove my entire account. Thanks to everyone on here that has been a help to me and hope that all that I have talked with and shared all the best in your futures.

Anderson I'm not sure what the point of your topic was....you are obviously peeved at someone. Take your own advice to us and be considerate to others.

Geesh....

Wow. Anderson, I hate to see you leave this group because I think it's an amazing place for support after surgery. However, you must make your own decision on that issue.

As for calling PDXMan a know it all...he is. In the best possible way! I look for PDXMan's posts on exercise and carb issues whenever I have questions about them. I appreciate his input and support. Seeing that he has definitely been very successful with his sleeve makes me read his posts with an open mind.

The whole point behind VST is to provide us all with support and answers to questions that we may not be able to get in our day to day lives. I know that, just today, I learned about a potential sleeve problem that I'd have never thought to consider asking at my IRL support group meeting. (Celery, for those interested) I will be asking my doc that question when I see him next week.

Good luck to everyone!

I've been to a few others, and I used to post on the lap band forum before I decided to go with the sleeve instead. I am comfy here, although there is good info at OH and other places as well. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Why wouldn't you just privately write to whoever was pissing you off in the first place? Airing out your greivances in public to something so specific (it was obviously aimed at one person who you fell "wronged you") is very childish. Good luck wherever you go. But since it's the Internet, I'm sure you will find these issues wherever you go.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
