The sleeve will help. It's a tool, not a magic wand, but it will help you lose weight. Nerves are normal before surgery, but you've done your research and you trust your surgeon, right? Then you should be fine!!

Good luck!!

I had some of the same fears, buyers remorse a couple days out, mostly emotional things, but it all passed. I am down 21 lbs in almost 6 weeks and even though I am loosing slowly, its 21 lbs I never have to see again. It will work, your stomach can't hold what it used to anymore.

I had some of the same fears in regard to my children. I want to be there for them and I realize I wasn't. I was depressed, miserable, always tired, that is no way to live. One of the reasons why I chose to have the surgery. Also I chose to have this one because of the success rate and the fact it improves your quality of life. Its very rare to see anyone with any issues with this procedure but I see it a lot more with the bypass and the lap band, well its iffy if it works or not. If it was that great it would work for everyone and not that many people would be having a reversal and having this one instead and I have researched the heck out of it and haven't found one person in which this surgery didn't work for. It might have worked slower for some than others, but everyone reaches their goal. Every one. That was enough for me.

You will be fine and pretty soon be on this side loosing and being happy about life and a better mother :)

Hi Momofthree...I have not had my surgery yet, but it is scheduled for March 13th with Dr. Alvarez. My husband has said the exact same thing to me. He supports me, but is worried about failure once again. I think it comes from seeing me work so hard to lose the weight on so many diets only to see it come back a little at a time plus an extra few pounds. I know he loves me the size that I am, but knows my quality of life is not 100% at my current size. He does not want this to fail for me as much as for himself. I'm self pay so its not like we are only paying some co-pays or even 20%.....this is a pretty big investment, but I know and he knows i'm worth it. Lots of luck, stick around here you'll get lots of support.

I have three kids also and my lap band worked until it didn't anymore. I was disappointed and so was my Husband. I blamed myself until I found out that a lot of bands were failing. This tool will only help you if you choose to work with it. I am already planning my Mommy Makeover in three years and I haven't even had my surgery yet! I am on my pre op diet and even though it is hard I know that when I have surgery in three weeks I will be extending the time I have with my babies. They are worth trying and failing for over and over again. I will keep going until I find what works for me.

Your Hubby needs to be more supportive and say more positive things. Mine is scared too because he is worried since the band didn't work and it's a major surgery, but he is also excited for me. He knows I will be happier if I am smaller.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
