Weighing Yourself After Surgery

Recommended Posts

I am just curious as to how often those of us who have had WLS weight ourselves. I see so many people post that they are not losing any weight and it sounds like they are weighing themselves daily. I have been on so many diets before I had my surgery that one of the things that I learned was never to weight yourself daily. I still follow that rule and I only weight once a week on Monday mornings since I had my surgery on a Monday. I found that weighing myself daily when on other diets only made me depressed if I did not lose or possibly gained some weight. I am sure that it is the same for those who have had WLS.

I would suggest that those who have had surgery only weight "ONCE A WEEK". You will be doing yourself a favor and not be so tempted to give up and have a bad 2-3 days before you get back on track. Just a thought and was curious as to how many out there weight daily or more than once a week.

I agree. I was driving my self crazy a couple weeks ago, weighing myself everyday. Now I am in the super Saturday weigh in posted by Sleeve4me. It does help to see the bigger number lost vs the 1 lb differance everyday.

I have to admit, I do weigh myself daily. I just can't stop. I'm not at all discouraged by the number I see each day. Even when I've stalled for a week or so, I still remind myself that I have lost 26 lbs since surgery 7 weeks ago, so that is pretty good!

I weigh every two weeks. But that's only because I am still 12# over the highest my PCP's scale goes!

But even when I am able to weigh on a regular scale I do believe in only weighing once a week. I think you get too discouraged when you weigh every day-and some here even weigh more often than that.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
