Doesn't get easier but it's short lived. With every hunger pain just think of your body stripping away a layer of fat and eating that instead.

Protein helps a ton with making you not feel hungry. If you're allowed, maybe drink more Protein Shakes, or maybe take some of those Protein shot things.

My liquid diet starts tomorrow, but I did an 8 day nothing but Water fast a few years ago in one of my attempts to lose weight. For me at least, the physical hunger went away around day 3, and the mental hunger went away at day 5... day 7 was when I *really* started feeling weak.. so plan accordingly :P

I found that making homemade broth helps a lot -- makes you feel like you almost have homemade Soup. I got a bunch of fresh herbs and tied them up with twine and cooked that in.

One of the things I did was take the leftover rib roast bones from Christmas and made beef broth. It was so much better than the canned, high-sodium stuff you buy in the stores.

Most of us didn't get this way by being bad cooks. We might as well use our skills to help ourselves now. I feel like I can make darn near anything palatable if I'm creative about it.

Congrats on the surgery date -- you're going to do great!!

Precious, the liquid diet is tough, but it will be over soon. Concentrate on why you're doing this and it will help you deal with the diet.

Good luck!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
