Feeling full with the band

Recommended Posts

Quick question (my shortest one yet I think :biggrin1: )

Is the feeling of fullness with the band, the same feeling of fullness that I get when I get full now without the band or is it different. I wonder if the full feeling feels higher up and./or if it makes you feel a little "gaggy" being so close to the top of the throat?

Thanks!!!

~Kim

It is definitely higher up, nearer the throat/esophagus. I don't notice 'gagging', but I definitely notice a 'ohmygawd, if I keep eating there'll be no where else to poke it' sensation. :huggie:

Not satisfying in that 'Thanksgiving' warm fuzzy feeling you get pre-band. Not for me. However, if properly restricted, you can be 'full' and satiated as in not being interested in eating anymore. Satisfied in that you no longer go to bed in the evening wishing you 'hadn't eaten all that' or feel like a bloated whale when you lay down in a food induced coma or guilt ridden because no human alive should ever inhale 'all that' food. lol. So I guess my point is 'satisfied' is relative. In my perspective, the relief of no longer gorging myself for whatever reason was immense and even more satisfying than feeling 'stuffed'.

I definately fell being full, but it is much higher up. Sometimes almost painful, especially when you take that one bite too much. It is a feeling you have to get used to because it is different.

For me it feels exactly the same as it did before only on less food. And when I'm really full, its "I can not eat another bite" full, I just cant risk shoving it in there. I know that it would come back up. Whereas before I could just keep on going!

It feels totally different, to me. Not only is it higher up, but it's MISERABLE if I over-eat. I would say "full" is definitely not the same as "satisfied", once you are banded. Depending on the food (and the mood my fickle band is in) I might get full on 5 bites.

Because the stoma pouch is created ABOVE the stomach, the feeling of fullness occurs higher up than pre-banding. Until you get an adequate level of restriction, you either don't feel the "new" full sensation or it's minimal. On my 3rd fill I felt "proper" restriction.

The feeling of being full is like a vase that you fill with Water. Once the vase is full and you attempt to put more water in, the water has no where to go and spills out. It's the same with the band. Once the maximum amount of food goes in, the "extra" will likely come right back up... NOT pleasant.

Hmmmm I usually eat till I am full, which makes me sleepy (especially at lunch)... My guess is that no longer will happen after the band!

Thanks for answering my question.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
