Popcorn After Gastric Sleeve Surgery....

Recommended Posts

3 1/2 months out from surgery is when I grabbed my 1st bag. The blessing of the sleeve is that although I purchased a monster size bag of white cheddar cheese popcorn - it took over a week to finish the bag! Crazy! Prior to surgery - that bag would have been consumed within an hour or two. Now it takes an entire flipping week eating it Breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner!

How long before you guys did popcorn? ??

Popcorn is/was my favorite "snack" and although I know I can't have it tomorrow I kind of feel like it is something to look forward to in the future.

I waited a good long while.. probably 6 months. I do love popcorn! I really have to monitor my intake. It's a slider and I REALLY can chow down on it BIG TIME... ohmy.png

I love popcorn so much I actually used to have a blog called the Popcorn Chronicles lol

It was all about where to go in the area I live for the best popcorn- which microwave brands were the best- which toppings I liked.... It's terrible! I really am willing to bet 15 pounds of me were all popcorn! And honestly- I'd be content to keep those 15 if the rest go! lol

I'm glad I will be able to enjoy popcorn again... I'm so glad I asked this question!

Okay, confession time... I bought my Mom the Whirley Pop, stove top Popcorn maker. It's claim is that (using the popcorn kits) your popcorn will come out tasting exactly like Movie Theater popcorn. Well, I can tell you it's no lie. It does... hahaaa!! Anyway, the confession is, I invested a little of that gift in me too. wink.png

And my favorite microwave popcorn is Pop Secret JUMBO POP... OMGGG that stuff is DEEE LISHUSSS!!

ETA: I just want everyone out there to note this... Popcorn is a slider food. Early out you won't be able to eat very much but as our stomachs heal you will definitely be able to eat just as much as you ever could. :) That out of the way... ENJOY!!! I know I do.

I remember the first time I made up some popcorn on the stove after having surgery...I made waaaayyyy too much! I can eat more now than I could that first time, of course, but there's no way I could have eaten all of that even now.

Also...note to self and others...when making popcorn, remember to put a lid on top of the pot...it helps.

Wow a 3-6 month wait is a long time! hurt.gif Going to check out the Whirley Pop in Amazon bolt.gif

If you get it, be sure to get the little popcorn kits too! They have the butter/popcorn/salt and the box has 5 kits in it. MMmmmMMM!!! Not sure what they put in it, but I'm a movie popcorn connoiseur and it tastes EXACTLY like it!!! Okay, I just love popcorn, period.

i ate popcorn yestrday and im only 2 weeks out! It accually settled better than most mushy stuff

Be careful. I went to the movies on my first week or two and when I told my surgeon "popcorn didn't kill me", he went pale! I meant the SMELL of popcorn didn't kill me. We had a good laugh afterwards, but him going pale tells you everything.

You should not be anywhere NEAR ingesting solid foods before (at the very earliest) the start of your fourth week.

10 days post op: clear liquid

10 days after that: full liquid

7-14 days after that: mushies....THEN you start adding in solid food. I know other surgeons follow less strict guidelines, but think about it...you just sliced apart one of your major organs which won't be fully healed for at least 6 months (minimum length of time for internal organs to heal)...do you really want to shove popcorn (an abrasive and undigestable foodstuff) into it when it is still highly irritated? If you're smart, the answer is "No".

Against my Drs orders, I have been eating popcorn nearly daily since about a week after my surgery. You can eat alot more popcorn than other foods since it squishes down real small when chewed up good. I am probably only eating 4 oz, but it seems like alot!!

I find it to be a very satisfying snack. Never bothers my tummy.

Agreed, popcorn only when safe. That's no joke.

Popcorn from the beginning?! All it takes is the mental image of an impacted, abscessed staple line to kill the craving. popcorn is one of the things that I will only attempt with the surgeon's permission. Holy moley. ack2.gif

Really, it's not about whether it comes back up or upsets your stomach. It's about the risk to your stapled stomach. PLEASE think carefully about what you put in your stomach while it's still healing!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
