The Slimes On Clear Liquids?

Recommended Posts

So last night, I ate a delicious dinner of chicken broth...it was scrumptious... about an hour or 2 later.. I get this funny feeling in my throat/esophageal area... Since then, I've had tons of mucus kind of lodged there... I've had tons of Water, warm Water, hot water, tea... HELP!!!!

Is this the infamous slimes or something else??!! Please advise.. Thanks

Whoa... what it sounds like. You sound pretty tight/swollen. Be sure to take the tiniest sips you've ever taken, and only sip every minute or so.

If it seems out of character, give your surgeon a call - just for safety sake.

For me, slimes occurred while eating, not an hour or two after. I believe that is pretty much the case. Sounds like something else going on.

Tina, I am glad you are going to see the doctor. It sounds more like dysphagia, which I developed a couple of months pre-op. A feeling that there is a lump o something there, that you just can't swallow down, called "globus sensation". I had that preop. It was reflux related. Were you prescribed a PPI post-op? I've been on mine for a while, and that worked like a charm for me and i havent had that feeling since i started the really good prescription strength one.

You said it was specific to Clear liquids though...are you approved for full liquids yet, is it different if you have full liquids?

I don't know.. I haven't deviated from the clears... My fluids go down fine.. It's just that glob of phlegm feeling.... It's not enough to throw up or spit out really.. it's very annoying and a little concerning.. And now I seem to have the sniffles!!!

I was prescribed a PPI, but the once a day dosage doesn't really do the job.. So, I will speak w/ him about that tomorrow... I really believe it's the excess acid and mucus...

Thanks for your responses!!

Let us know how everything turns out. :) I hope its not a big deal but sure not a bad idea to ask your dr about it. It almost sounds like you're getting sick... Oh mercy :(

I was given this apparatus to breath deeply into while in the hospital and also told to do for 10 days afterwards. It expands your lungs and diaphragm for 2 reasons 1 so you dont get Fluid on your lungs and develop pneumonia and 2 gets the gas out of your system from surgery. Being asthmatic I DID NOT want to get pneumonia and I did it faithfully every hour 10 puffs. I can definitely see how if NOT doing it would cause phlegmy things but I'm not an expert... Good luck- ps. I get the slimes EVERY time I try something new, cannot eat solids without nausea so I have been sticking with liquids or mushies... GOod luck and feel better!

Thanks!! I wasn't told to do 10 puffs/hour... but I'll start using it more... Congrats on your weight loss...

I'm not a doctor, but It kind of sounds like acid reflux....I had what felt like a ball stuck in my esophagus for the first couple of weeks until I started taking a PPI. It happened everytime I drank something that wasn't the right temp. or drank to fast.

It's not the slimes. The slimes are like when you are about to throw up and you have to keep spitting and spitting. It's really gross. If you're lucky you won't get them. thumbs_up.gif

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
