I was sleeved 12/12/11, and am now 2 weeks post op. I have recently noticed a significant change in my vision. I already wear contacts for distance, but have noticed I am increasingly light sensitive suddenly need correction for reading. I even picked up a cheap pair of reading glasses in the grocery store to hold me over until I can get to the eye dr.

I am now wondering if this is somehow related to my surgery, or just a timely coincidence and part of being in my 40's now! Anyone else experience this post op?

Thanks for any input!

Kelly

Part of it is our age. It seemed like overnight when I started holding things far away from me to read. It hit my hubby just as fast. I'm 41 and he's 42. My eye Dr said it was age related. He ran all the typical eye tests too. I guess I can add Lasik to my wish list now :)

I had lasik in 2009 and i have noticed that my distance vision is a little blurry now since my surgery. It may be related to dry eyes, at least thats what I am hoping.

In the past, after significant weight loss, my prescription for my glasses has changed enough to require new glasses. Apparently, my astigmatism changes when my weight drops as does my far-sightedness and near-sightedness. (I have one eye of each kind - nothing to do with age).

I'm a type II diabetic (off meds since surgery). Anytime my blood sugars fluctuate my eyesight takes time to adjust. During that time, I'll have blurry vision and have trouble reading closer without reading glasses. It usually adjusts itself within a month or two. I had blurry vision for a while right after surgery but when my blood sugar normalized, the problem resolved. Given your diet has changed pretty dramatically, this may be happening to you as well - or it could just be coincidence as previously stated.

Your Fluid balance also affects your eyesight. That's why I was never able to wear hard contact lens back in the day before the permeable ones even existed. Does anyone remember back that far?? Make sure you stay hydrated, especially in the early weeks post-op. Unfortunately there is only one way to stop the aging process, and I am not quite ready for that yet...Kathe :)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
