Problems Finding Foods I Like Post Op 1 Month

Recommended Posts

My guilty pleasure lately has been going to costco and trying the samples to see what tastes good to me now. The Aidells's meatballs were heavenly. I also liked crab meat, cream cheese, ham, and smoked salmon. I have been craving sauces so I made my own cocktail sauce(heavy on the horseradish) and had a shrimp cocktail with lots of lemon. It was great!

Im right there with you... almost 1 month out and I cant eat more then 2 super duper small bites of soft food. I can seem to get down a half of a pudding but thats it really. Also i dont feel "good" ful feeling I feel the lump in my throat i wanna throw up feeling..

food and eating time has become my enemy, i dread when i realize i havent ate anything and need to. GRR I too hope this passes.

I normally love Tamales and we have a fridge packed with them right now.. well I pulled one out to try and eat a bite and the smell made me gag..... my heart broke in a million pieces..lol

Seven weeks out and I tried to taste a piece of cake during Thanksgiving. I had to spit it out it tasted like pure flour. Yes our tastebuds changed. I hear that they eventually go back to normal. I would suggest checking out Eggface website.. there are tons of recipes, try different things and you'll come on something you like..

Maybe get used to this time and focus on something other than food.. in the long run that will be a good thing.. Find other things to fill your time with.. reading.. excersise.. talking to friends..

I hear it gets better!

Do a search on this site for ketosis. Basically, when your body is in a state of carb deprivation, acetone builds up in your saliva causing everything to taste funky. I talked to my NUT, who relayed this information to me. She told me to up my carbs by adding cooked veggies to my Soup purees and it really did the trick. Things tasted better, my energy level went up and my weight loss continued.

Talk to your NUT and see what they say.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
